Dad loved music, opera and the Arts generally and when time permitted enjoyed performing himself. While living in Twickenham he and Mum joined the church amateur dramatic group, The Edmundian Players; in Birmingham he was involved in writing a 'revue' featuring topical songs about the lab team based on well-known tunes from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. The example above was to be sung to the tune of 'Tit Willow' from The Mikado. He was an enthusiastic member of the bass section of various church choirs and in 2008 was delighted to be part of a group from St George and St Teresa's Church singing at the premiere of a new community opera, Mankind, by Michael Finnissy, performed at Olton Friary.
