Jose Gonzalez

Jose de Jesus Gonzalez October 5, 1945 - September 24, 2024 of Santa Fe, NM passed away after a short illness. Born in Ponce Puerto Rico, Jose came to the mainland when he was seventeen years old without knowing any English but with a strong work ethic. He quickly became fluent in English and had an aptitude for numbers going from working in factories to supervising receiving departments in large companies and NY based hospitals.Jose loved fishing, merengue dancing, and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He always had a joke ready and a smile on his face, he never met a stranger, never passed up on a Christmas burrito or a plate of arroz con gandules. If a mariachi band was playing anywhere near him you could count on him getting up and singing with them. He was a fan of western and crime books and tv shows. In his retirement he volunteered in a variety of different places such as Santa Fe's St. Elizabeth's homeless shelter to various northern NM animal shelters. Jose touched all he met. He was a devoted family man and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed.Jose joins his soulmate, true love and wife of 35 years Roxanne who preceded him in death and leaves behind his step-children Jennifer Phillips - Hayes, Jonathan Roo Phillips, his sister Mercedes Gonzalez, his grandsons Manfred Hayes and Gunther Hayes, his nephew and nieces Anna Morales, Carlos Morales, Samantha Phillips, Jamie Ward, Kristen Terhaar, his great nephews and nieces Julian Morales, Sami Rivera, Joey Rivera, Yuhanni Morales, Justin Terhaar, Taylor Terhaar, Jake Ward and Katie Lane.
