Jon Albert Schmidt

Jon Schmidt, age 74, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, passed away at home on September 5, 2025.

 

Jon will be remembered by his wife of 31 years, Erin, his seven siblings: David (Rochelle), Karen, Greg (Lady), Glenn (Robyn), Brian (Margaret), Barry (Michelle) and Eric (Cyndi) and his many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Betty Schmidt, his son, Jason Richard Schmidt and his brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” W Parsons.

 

Jon received his Bachelor of Arts in Statistics from the University of Florida and held systems programming and software engineering jobs at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, McDonnell Douglas Automation and StorageTek. His career took him from West Palm Beach to St. Louis, MO and ultimately to Boulder, CO, where he met Erin, whom he married in 1994.

 

Jon grew up in Florida and although he lived in many places after graduating from college, he always wanted to return to Florida. He and Erin ultimately settled in Cocoa Beach after retirement.

 

Jon was very intelligent but very quiet. He had a talent for digesting a wide-range of technical concepts quickly and comprehensively. Although seemingly uninterested in conversations around him, he would listen and contribute some clever observation when you might least expect it. He was a kind soul, despite his sometimes gruff manner. He was also thoughtful and generous, at first towards his younger siblings when he went out on his own and later towards Erin. He will be sorely missed by his family.

 

There will be a Funeral Mass and Burial on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church, 5301 N Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL
