John M. Zamora passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. John was born on December 26, 1949 in Oceanside, CA to father John Zazueta Zamora and mother Mary Montañez Zamora. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1968. John was in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1975 where he served in Turkey, Davis Monthan, AZ, and the Vietnam War. John attended Mira Costa and San Diego State University. He was a part of the bell staff team at the La Costa Resort for several years, where he enjoyed interacting with staff and guests and telling jokes. Later, he became a courier for Federal Express in 1993 and retired in 2015. John loved running, fishing, and cycling. He completed many marathons and century bicycle rides. A lover of music, John had tunes playing as the soundtrack to every moment of his life: from running, to yard maintenance, to cruising the coast in his truck. His favorites were Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Santana, War, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. John transformed his backyard into a slice of Hawaiian paradise shortly after falling in love with the Hawaiian Islands and culture during his first visit in 2002. In 2017, John had the privilege to pick out his very own Golden Retriever puppy, Cisco. The 2 were inseparable from that moment on. Family was very important to John. He always made it appoint to get the family together for holidays, always remembered birthdays and important dates. John would meet with his siblings routinely to celebrate each birthday. John is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, John & Ben, and daughter, Emily. He also has grandchildren Ben, Alejandro, Javier, and soon to be granddaughter, Kaitlynn; his siblings, Norma LaCrosse, Frank Zamora, and Nancy Zamora. A celebration of life for John will be held at a later date for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations be made in his name, John M. Zamora, to the City of Hope in Duarte.

Long ago we struck up a friendship that was based on a mutual love of fitness. Yours was running marathons and mine endurance cycling. Being of curious minds, we talked about our passion for being physically fit. You often spoke of the many marathons you had completed and how you enjoyed running along the coast with music playing in your ear and keeping rhythm to your favorite running song - September by Earth Wind & Fire and how Joyful it made you feel. I could totally relate. For me it was getting into a thythm and feeling my body adapt to the change of the terrain while challenging myself on many 100 mile bike rides. You were curious about cycling and I had always wanted to run a marathon. You struck a deal with me saying, I will train you to run a marathon If you train me to ride 100 miles! How could I resist. I love a challenge. Countless hours were spent running and cycling. You were the perfect coach giving way to encouragement and setting the pace. You also made it perfectly clear that training should be Fun. And so it was. Run with the Angels and ride like the wind..🦋 I will miss you my Friend.
