January 16th, 1930 - February 10th, 2020
John J. St. Angelo, 90, from Massapequa, New York, died peacefully on February 10, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on January 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Anna Montana and Gustave St. Angelo. He was married on May 30, 1953 in Queens Village, New York, to the love of his life, Josephine (Joanne), and spent 66 happy years at her side.
A committal service with military honors will be held on March 13, 2:00 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
John is survived by his wife, Joanne; brothers, Leonard, Anthony, Joseph, and Michael; sisters, Mary Stattel and Carmella Maziotti; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mike Lafata and Karen and Ron Kilgard; six grandchildren, Austin Converse, Michele Truffin, Jonathan Converse, Jack Kilgard, Vincent Lafata, and Christopher Converse; and two great-grandchildren, Theodore Converse and Everett Converse. He is preceded in death by his brother, James, and sister, Katherine Parisi.
During the Korean War, John served in the US Army, 9th Infantry Division, in a field artillery battalion. He returned home to build and run a successful landscaping company, Saint’s Landscaping, and raise two lovely daughters. Later in life, John and Joanne relocated to Phoenix to be closer to their daughters and spend time with their beloved grandchildren. John was a family man, hobby woodworker, Long Island crabber, avid bowler, and a towering personality. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew him.
John loved to make people laugh. In that spirit and in lieu of flowers, please spend a minute to share a photo or fond memory you have with John.

Pop Pop, as we called him growing up, was the best grandfather a boy could ask for. He was funny, cool, and full of love. I'll always remember sleep overs, woodworking in the garage, bowling, and - most of all - laughing together. I'm happy he got to meet my son, Everett. I wish they could have spent more time together. Pop, I miss you more than I'll ever be able to express. I love you. Jonny

Dad, I cried when you passed away. I cry everyday. Although I LOVE you dearly, I couldn’t make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me he only takes the best. Always in my heart ❤️ Susan
