" A Wealth of Information", that is how Carl and I always thought of Obie. Every time Carl and I needed financial advice, auto or home repair advice; Obie and Natalie would share their experiences and knowledge over the years with us. Skiing with Obie was always our favorite time with him. Watching Obie glide gracefully down the slopes, we could see the excitement on his face. Spending time in the mountains, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying sports with his friends and family was something Obie really enjoyed. Carl and I always have admired the love that Obie and Natalie (the love of his life) shared together. We miss Obie and think of him often.

Opa Obie was such a joyous man to be around. I'm truly grateful for all the knowledge that he has given me over the years. As I live in the "Green House" as we like to call it and I am constantly reminded of his craftsmanship and the love for adventure he had, always seeking new places. He built everything from the kitchen tables, headboards, and the nice seats in the living room. Out of all his wonderful work one of my favorites is the carved bear that greets me everyday as I pull into the driveway or the squirrel that is perched next to the shed, I like to think he is watching over the wood piles for me. Surrounded with little memories of him everyday he will never be forgotten. Opa you will be truly missed and thank you for everything.

I couldn't be more thankful to have seen Grandpa in October, where he met Madison, his great grand daughter. Below is the video of him, greeting us at the car, making faces and being a goof to make her laugh. I loved to visit Roseville and hear his stories of growing up and running Obies. I never missed a chance to have grandpa make me eggs for breakfast, because he just made the best- any way you wanted. He may have passed on Christmas Day but I'll always remember grandpa at Christmas for sending mom, Angel, "the red box". This talented craftsman managed to wood carve literal thumb tacks and then package them into "the red box." This red box didn't have any seems or ways in and truly stumped us on how to get into it. The exchange of this red box went on for years between mom and grandpa. This truly highlights all the reasons we loved him: his goofiness, his handiwork, his wood carvings, his thoughtfulness. You are loved and admired Grandpa.

Obie and I met at the bottom of the old Alpine Bowl Chair lift at Alpine Meadows Ski Area, CA in February 1986. By the time we got to the top of that very slow moving lift, talking all the way, I felt that I wanted to spend time with this friendly skier. After skiing together that afternoon, we exchanged phone numbers in the parking lot. That began a 30+ year amazing friendship. We spent hundreds of days together skiing, kayaking, and mountain biking. Obie was a mentor, craftsman, teacher and best friend. May he go in peace.

Aaron and Melanie Ivey We have the pleasure of being Obie and Natalie's neighbors and have been for several years. We have enjoyed having them around and they always inspire us to get out and be active. They were always out walking around the neighborhood. We have enjoyed several summers that we were able to use their cabin in Lake Tahoe. This was such a special time for us and our girls absolutely loved it! We have many memories there that we will always cherish and it was because of their generosity to open their home to us. Obie will certainly be missed by us. He has a wonderful wife and family who love Him very much!

Grandpa Obie was such a fantastic man. The news of his passing has me in such a swirl of emotions. Devastated that the world will not be graced with his presence any longer. Sad that grandpa will not be around to see his great grandchildren grow up, that he will not be around to see my wedding (if that day ever comes), will not be around to show me how to make decks and sheds like he helped my parents with growing up. Happiness that grandpa is in a place where he can remember all the good times again, that he can be in a better place mentally in heaven. Selfish and regretful that i did not take the time to go out to visit grandma and grandpa. I selfishly did not want to see the diminishing capacity of grandpa because i only wanted to remember the good times, but from seeing these posts it showed me that he never lost his sense of being goofy, his love of life, and most of all- his love for my grandmother. The biggest emotion of all; i feel blessed to be a part of Obie's legacy. To have seen what true love looks like. To have seen what brilliance can come from one man. To have seen the beauty in patience through his artwork. To have seen how a positive outlook on life can brighten anyone's day. You will be severely missed ❤️
