John Benito Theobalds was born October 9, 1935 in Layou, St. Vincent, W.I., to Henry Cornelius Theobalds and Dorothy Asenath John. John was raised in the West Indies where he attended and graduated from the Caribbean Union College in Maracas, Trinidad in 1956. Afterwards, he immigrated to the United States to continue his education. John married Eunice Williams on April 5, 1961. On December 1, 1964, John proudly became a citizen of the United States of America. John obtained his Bachelor of Science from the Long Island University in 1969 and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1975. He completed his internship and residency at Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo, NY. During his time as a student, and during his internship and residency, he also volunteered and dedicated much of his time and effort to helping those with medical needs. In 1979, John relocated his family to the Washington D.C.Metropolitan area where he practiced as a Family Physician until his retirement in 2016. Dr. Theobalds was certified in family medicine and emergency medicine and was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Furthering his commitment to education in medicine, Dr. Theobalds, became a preceptor, or mentor through the Howard University School of Medicine and often used his practice to train and teach medical students, residents and physician assistants. Dr. Theobalds was a physician who dedicated his life to providing the best care he could to his patients. He was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as an intuitive practitioner, a teacher, and a knowledgeable, compassionate and caring physician. He was a dedicated fan of the New York Mets and the Buffalo Bills. He is survived by his wife Eunice, and their children, Elizabeth, of La Plata, MD, Jeanmarie, of Brooklyn, NY, and Katherine of Buenos Aires, ARG; and his son, Andre of Los Angeles, CA. Also left to mourn is his uncle, James DeShong of Brooklyn, NY; his siblings: Marilyn Robinson of Atlanta, GA; Jose Theobalds (Jean) of Queens, NY; Monica Liburd (Bernard) of Virginia Beach, VA; Benicia Yvonne Springer (Albert) of Mobile, AL; Ana Marin (Robert) of Brooklyn, NY; Hilda Theobalds of Brooklyn, NY; Pearl Polanco of Brooklyn, NY; Linda DeRiggs (Clyde) of Brooklyn, NY; Juan Theobalds of Venezuela, S.A., and a multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many loving friends.
