February 19th, 1949 - November 2nd, 2022
John (Jack) Stanton,73, passed away 11/02/2022 in Oxnard, CA. Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY to John Patrick Stanton and Margaret Mary McConnell on 2/19/1949. He was raised on Long Island and went to Seaford High School. Jack went on to attend St. Edward's University in Austin, TX and studied psychology. During his college years he worked at the Texas School for the Deaf as a counselor and became proficient in sign language. He stayed in Austin after college and worked in the thriving music scene where he managed several famous musicians. In the early 80's he went back to New York to be with his family and worked for Western Union in security and then worked his way up to 1 of 4 regional managers. By the late 80's Jack headed west to California to visit his cousin ...it is there that he fatefully met his wife Carrie. Jack and Carrie were married in 1990. They owned and operated a successful clothing and home accessory company till 2007. After that Jack and a long time friend opened an old fashioned themed candy and soda shop. Jack loved to greet his customers every day, his customers loved him and he sure loved them.
Jack was loving, kind, supportive, funny and charismatic. He had a great "New York" sense of humor. He loved music, the beach, Mexico and fishing. He loved spending time with his most loyal companion, his miniature schnauzer Theodore. Jack was smart and quick-witted. He could talk politics for hours. He loved tooling around the beach in his convertible that he named "The blue meanie". He loved sports and was an avid and talented fisherman and spent many early days on long range fishing trips with his best buddies. He was a huge Texas Longhorn fan and a big supporter of any and all UT sports. He was married for 32 years to his best friend, Carrie, and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who new him.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Stanton, his sister Mary Ann Purack, his brother, Bob Stanton and nieces, Regina Eleanor, Margaret Mary Feeley and Grace Stanton. He is proceeded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Stanton.

I came on Facebook today wondering what happened to the Jack Stanton I knew in Seaford, NY, in the late 60s. Sadly, I now know he passed away last year. Jack was so funny and full of life. Whenever he arrived, you knew it was going to be a great time. My strongest memory of him was during the summer of 1966 or 67. One night there was a dance outside on the blacktop of one of the schools. The DJ was playing "Wild Thing," Jack was wearing an outrageous Hawiian shirt, and he and I were dancing. I thought I would be young forever. It's wonderful to read these comments and see that he never lost the zest he had as a teenager. May his memory be a blessing.

I have enough wonderful memories of Jack to write a book, maybe that is because I worked for him at the candy shop for some time, or maybe it’s because Jack had a way about him that added a bit of magic to the world around him. He was authentically himself wherever he went: kindhearted, intelligent, and had a clever sense of humor. I met Jack during a difficult time in my life -a time in which he was a great boss, and a grounded and wise friend to me. I will never forget our talks, or the way he made space for everyone in the room. I can still picture his laugh as he would wave and pull ahead of me at a stop light after work, hear his voice singing his favorite Motown songs, see the smile he always had for all his customers and friends, or the twinkle in his eye when he talked about Carrie. I know wherever Jack is now he is already the life of the party, and until we get to meet him there, his memory will live on in all of us whose lives he deeply touched. Because of Jack, I try to live my life a little more boldly, as he always used to remind me “There is nothing to fear in life, but fear itself”

Jack is a man with a presence. His giant smile was such a treat and I could seriously listen to him talk forever. So kind and gentle but very assertive and sure of who he is. It sounds silly but I thought it was so great to watch him argue politics with Roger hahahah yeah. Fun times. Jack will be missed by so many. I love you guys.

I liked to tease Jack by referring to him as ‘Officer Jack’, harkening back to his days as a security officer for Western Union in Hartford, CT. His comments could be incisive as he inherited his father’s sharp sense of humor, but a witty reposte would easily shatter his fragile facade and reveal his charming face-wide smile. In the vernacular of men he was a ‘good guy’. ‘Oh, thank heaven for 7-11’ (inside joke). Rest In Peace, buddy.
