Jodi loved C.S. Lewis... and especially this quote from The Last Battle, “The term is over: the holidays have begun. The dream is ended: this is the morning.

Jodi Marie Hall

October 30, 1965-September 11, 2020

Jodi Marie Hall, age 54, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of September 11th. She was sleeping when she experienced a heart attack. Jodi was born in Seattle, Washington to doting parents Eleanor and Larry Hall. The family moved to Keizer, Oregon, when Jodi was entering fourth grade and she graduated from McNary High School in 1983. She was involved in her high school church youth group and on cheer squad where she made many wonderful friends and memories. But Jodi’s roots in Seattle ran deep and she returned there to attend SPU.

Jodi received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Seattle Pacific University in 1988, graduating cum laude. She earned her Masters of Education at University of Washington in 1994. She served the Kent School District for 32 years, first as a Computer specialist and later as a first grade teacher at two different schools for the rest of her career.

Jodi loved God, her family, and her friends deeply. She joyfully filled many roles: Christian, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, football fan, and gardener. She was very involved with her church family at Community Bible Fellowship in Seattle, Washington. Before that, she attended Antioch Bible Church where she served and sang in the choir for many years. She loved the Seahawks, and Notre Dame football and made sure everyone in the family had game updates and fan-gear. Another favorite hobby was shopping and she was a thoughtful and generous gift-giver.

She is survived by her Mother, Eleanor Hall, her brother, Gregory Hall, sister-in-law, Lisa, and her nephews Jacob and Nathaniel Hall. Jodi was preceded in death by her Father, Larry Hall.

Jodi requested her ashes be spread at the beach, on Lake Washington near Coulon Park, and on the family property in Keizer, Oregon.

I met Jodi at Cummings Elementary in Keizer, Oregon. She was so funny and joyful and we had such good times. We went to junior high together at Whiteaker, also in Keizer. We were on the dance team together. Our little gang had about 5 people and we had a lot of fun together. I also remember meeting her parents and they were so sweet to me. I loved all of those friends, but especially Jodi. My family and I moved mid-way through my 8th grade year and I was only able to see her a handful of times after that. I am very sad I won't be able to see her here on earth, but I hope I get to see her in the great beyond.

It was a year ago today we learned that my sister, Jodi Marie Hall failed to wake up on September 12th. Can't believe it's been a year... and all of us are still very much aware of the great vacancy created by her passing.

My memories of Jodi go back to the high school church youth group in Salem. My senior year (her Junior year) a group of us studied and prepared together and went on a work trip known as "Project People" to help prepare a church camp in Puerto Rico for use and to assist in the local church. As is often the case, those of us who went were blessed in ways we wouldn't have imagined. It was a really special time and a fun time, and one of the blessings was that a group of us became close friends that hung out together at church, restaurants, hot tubs, etc. Jodi was an integral part of that group of friends, and she brought her friendliness, energy, love, humor and laughter to every gathering. When she want away to college, it would pick right up again each time she came home on breaks. Geographic separation and the passage of time brought changes, but it's obvious she continued to exude a zeal for life and the joy of the Lord where she lived, worked, worshipped, and served in the years since. It was such a shock to hear of her passing, but praise God that we know with confidence that she is now in the place prepared for her by our Savior! Praise God that there will be a reunion and that each person touched by her life will be able to pick right up again without the constraints of time or geography. Thank you Greg and Community Bible Fellowship for the archived service - I was blessed to be a part of it!

My Aunt Jodi was by far the most joyous individual that I have ever known. I can clearly picture her big smile, one that I got to see every time she came down to Oregon to visit her Mother and Father, (My Grandparents) Brother and Sister-in-law, (my Mom and Dad) and two Nephews (brother Nate and me), to stay for a few days before she headed home to teach a classroom of energetic Elementary school students in Washington State. She loved Jesus very much, and she was one of my biggest supporters, praying for me often. Aunt Jodi took great joy in watching old films, especially ones in black and white. she had seen them all! My favorite movie that She introduced me to growing up, along with my Dad, stars a man who is at rock bottom named George Bailey. Circumstances in George's life lead him to believe that he would be better off ending His own life, but God gives him a second chance by giving George the opportunity to temporarily live in a world where he was never born, and through that experience, he gets to see what an enormous difference he made in improving the lives of others, and the world. The story reminds me to reflect upon the value of our limited time here on Earth, and that no matter what I may be going through in the moment, and however overwhelming living in this imperfect world can be at times, looking at life from the perspective of others, even for a short time, can illuminate that truly, it's a wonderful life that we live. I have enjoyed watching this movie called "It's A Wonderful Life" time and time again with my Aunt Jodi, and I am extremely grateful for the time that I got to spend with her while she was alive. She made an enormous difference in the lives of the many children she taught over the years, and was one of the people that encouraged and inspired me most throughout my young adult life. These are happy memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and into the next. Thank you Aunt Jodi for enriching my experience here on Earth, and I look forward to seeing you in Heaven! I Love you!

In Jodi’s honor, I lit the candle she gifted me for Christmas my first year teaching with her again tonight. The glow and smell of warmth and joy has gratefully lasted and been able to bring me some comfort. I cherish all the gifts she has given me - tangible and intangible.

I was very blessed to have been in a bible study with Jodi for nearly 25 years. Her love for God was truly amazing, and she was a wonderful role model and teacher of the Word. She was also a thoughtful gift giver. Several of us would gather for each other's birthdays throughout the years, and we could count on receiving a gift purchased from QVC. Not only that, but she would purchase something that was a favorite of hers knowing that if she liked it, we would like it. And, she would be right! My heart is broken that she has left us, even though she is experiencing great joy being with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Some day, we will each feel that kind of joy! I love you Jodi!
