One of our mother's lifelong loves and aspirations was creative writing. One of her favorite chjaracters was a fictional version of herself named Jocey Curtis. "There was a time when women were thought of as wives, mothers, teachers, nurses, waitresses, secretaries, and store clerks. Jocey was going to be different. She was born during an era when women were realizing their full potential.…although women who were as successful as men, in careers once thought of as exclusively for men, had to suffer exhausting burdens of notoriety while having to work harder and better than men in their respective fields. Average woman did not think of having careers like men. Jocey would not be average. Writing and journalism were fields dominated by men. Jocey liked to write and was determined to pursue a career that would allow her to write. And she would not be dominated by men."
