Loved deeply, laughed easily, helped countless others, and left us far too soon.

Jennifer Eileen Chase Sugg

July 8, 1969 - May 23, 2026

Jennifer Sugg passed away peacefully at home in San Bruno, California, on May 23, 2026. She was 56 years old.

Jennifer was born on July 8, 1969, in Okinawa, Japan, where her father, Tom, was serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. Raised in a military family, she lived in a number of places during her childhood before her family settled in Boulder Creek, California.

Jennifer had a creative spirit from an early age. She began journaling as a child and continued the practice throughout her life, including in her final days. She appeared in several local theater productions, including Steel Magnolias, and later worked as an extra in a number of locally produced films. In her younger years, she loved live music, worked at a record store in Santa Cruz, traveled to see bands she loved, and even met the Ramones. A dancer throughout her life, she especially loved swing dancing and was a regular presence in San Francisco’s rockabilly scene for many years. She also attended Viva Las Vegas many times throughout her adult life.

Jennifer worked for more than 20 years at Paychex as a Senior Administrative Assistant.

Jennifer married Stephen Sugg on May 7, 2017. Their daughter Mabel was born in 2018, followed by Della in 2020. After becoming a mother, Jennifer left the workforce and found deep fulfillment as a stay-at-home mom.

Mabel and Della were the absolute delight of Jennifer’s life. She loved volunteering at their schools and being part of their daily lives. She also had a talent for turning ordinary outings into special occasions, especially trips to Starbucks and Target, where she was known to spoil the girls. Some of her happiest times were spent with family at Pajaro Dunes, enjoying the beach and making memories with the people she loved most.

Jennifer was deeply generous with her time and heart. Over the years, she quietly supported many women and friends, offering compassion, wisdom, humor, and hope. Her kindness, generosity, intelligence, and quick wit touched many lives.

Those who knew Jennifer will remember her captivating smile and remarkable sense of humor. She had an outgoing personality, but those closest to her also knew how much she appreciated quiet time at home with her beloved cat, Finnegan. She loved animals deeply and cared about children, family, and the well-being of the people around her.

Jennifer was an avid exerciser earlier in her life and remained fiercely independent in spirit. She loved movies, dinners out, traveling, beach trips, family gatherings, time with friends, and video games. She had very little interest in sports, but would enthusiastically offer her signature cheer, “Go sports!” whenever the occasion called for it.

In late 2025, Jennifer was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. She faced her illness with courage and determination. Through an extraordinarily difficult time, her love for her family remained at the center of everything.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Fowler Chase.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Sugg; daughters, Mabel and Della; mother, Camille Chase; sister Lisa Neumann and brother-in-law Corey Neumann; niece Ariana Neumann; sister Marci Donohoe and brother-in-law John Donohoe; nephew James Donohoe; and many cherished friends and members of the recovery community.

Jennifer was taken from us far too soon. Her family will remember her love, her laughter, her kindness, and the joy she brought into their lives. Her legacy lives on in her daughters and in the many people whose lives were changed by knowing her.

Celebration of life information will be announced separately.

I knew Jenn from a we little girl. We became family when mom married her dad's brother. I think of her the same way I did as a child. This tall character with a calm, silly energy. Life happened and people grow in other directions, never forgotten, but lack of communication. Sometimes memories only bring feelings. My memory of Jenn, I was not very old, 4 or 5 maybe, and I wanted to give her a Christmas present. This was very important to me. I needed to give her a walnut. Now, I have looked back on this throughout my life. The genuine feeling of excitement, admiration, hope and Love that existed in giving that walnut, and that has always reminded me of what it feels like to give. Her very existence made me a better person. Sad I was never brave enough to tell her. Miss you.

I met Jennifer-Jenn via her sister Marci. When I lived in San Francisco on Sanchez and 30th street. I had moved there since my other friend in the City got married. So I got to know al my roommates like Julie and Jen. And they introduced me to Marci. And soon I met Jenn. We hit it of from the first minute. Both loved Rockabilly and Swing. My rockabilly’s friends from the Netherlands and my new Friends in SF got to mingle. I took Jenn and Marci to my local The Dovre and so a fabulous time started. We had so many nights of fun, playing pool, finding tunes on the juke box. Having talks with Brian and many more. And the many conversations about life, heartship, love, Jokes to much to mention. Drinking Harp and Bud together. Singing songs, became part of the Dovre’s softball team. Going to concerts. Went to baseball games of the A’s. I also spend a Christmas at the parents house of Jenn and Marci. I felt so special. When you were in Jennifers heart, she would do anything for you. She was also subborn just like me. She would journal everything. I so admired her “me time” at home with her cat. Doing laundry in Sunday and taking it easy. I still feel so special that Marci and Jennifer came to visit me in The Netherlands. We all slept at my mom’s house and got to see Amsterdam,( Anne Franks House) and Rotterdam( walked the bridges) and celebrating New Years at my friends house in Dordrecht. Ate andive with bacon and oliebollen. We talked about finding love and I am so happy that she met Stephen. And became the mother of her wonderfull daughters. I always thought that we could go to Viva Las Vegas together one day. But saw al her pictures when she went and she looked amazing & happy. Jenn also took me to eat Sushi for the first time. We had many dinners together. The last time i saw Jennifer she took me and my husband for breakfast in 2009. I am so blessed to had has such an important friendship with her. She was a one of a kind. Her humor, style, and big heart stand out for me. I will miss her, but forever my heart.

I'm a longtime friend of Stephen's and met Jenn through him,. I still remember the first time I met her, in Dolores Park. She had one of her classic rockabilly outfits, and the two of them looked very happy together. Stephen once told me that Jenn journaled every day, and that when she filled up several journals, she'd have them shredded rather than holding on to them. I was struck by her discipline and commitment to self-healing. In honor of Jenn, whenever I sit down to write in my own journal now, I think of her.
