Jeffrey John Kaiser, 66, of Laguna Hills, California, passed away  February 4, 2023  after a year and a half  battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). He was born to Thomas and Jean Kaiser, a fireman and a housewife, in Los Angeles, CA on May 22, 1956. He grew up in Playa del Rey and Seal Beach with his brother, Greg and two sisters, Patti and Peggy. He enjoyed going to the beach, practicing sports, and having fun with cousins and friends. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly. He and his family created many memories while enjoying vacation trips camping at Lake Powel.

He attended Point Loma College in San Diego, CA. He lived in a dorm overlooking the coast at Sunset Cliffs. He graduated from there with a business degree and lived in San Diego for many years.

Jeff was the first California Collegiate Surfing Champion in 1979. He was also a member of the United States Surfing Team and the Four Man Olympic Team in 1980. Jeff also treasured surfing trips with his brother Greg to Indonesia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Jeff and his brother Greg painted houses for several years under their dad's painting business. Then, they both joined First Transit and became bus drivers. Jeff drove public buses in Orange County for around eighteen years.

In 2020, Jeff began experiencing strange symptoms on his right arm.  Eventually in September of 2021,  he was diagnosed with ALS. His decease progressed over the following year. His worsening symptoms resulted in the lost of his career as a bus driver and also losing his total independence.

Jeff was kind and softly spoken. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, his parents, his brother, his two sisters as well as his cousins, nieces, and dear friends.

A tribute to a Gran Amigo. His personality, friendship and compassion with others, made him a real good friend. Talking with him after work and spending few minutes exchanging good life and always positive even in bad days, something that I’ll always going to miss about his positivism. Today you’re in paradise my friend and we’ll meet again.

Jeff was a great surfing buddy when we were in our teens. I once visited him at Point Loma College. That visit turned into quite a story and my stay there was very short as myself and the 2 other guys who were on that visit were invited to leave by the guy in charge of Jeffs dorm. Every weekend was some kind of surfing adventure either staying local to surf or heading north or south up or down the coast in search of good waves. We had no internet but Jeff had a weather radio and listened to it religiously to figure out where surfing might be the best. Then on Friday nights we would load up in a van (we all had them back then) and headed for the weekends destination with 8 track stereo blasting! Back then life was simple and the life we grew up in was amazing, especially compared to life today. Jeff was a very powerful surfer. Carved his turns HARD! No surprise he achieved some success in his surfing career. Its impossible for me to remember my teenage years without remembering Jeff. God speed buddy!
