February 20th, 1943 - June 22nd, 2020
Jean Mary Menton (nee List) of San Diego, Ca, died peacefully on June 22, 2020, at the age of 77.
Jean was born on February 20, 1943, to Clesson and Auretta List in Springfield, Illinois. She grew up the youngest of three girls. After graduating from SUNY Oswego in 1965, she became an elementary school teacher. After being a stay at home Mom for many years, she had a very successful career in media sales, management, and training at Clear Channel Communications that spanned 24 years and a cross country transfer. She retired in 2011.
Jean married her first husband Jim Menton, in 1967 and had three children: Maureen, Tom, and Dennis. After the two divorced, Jean partnered with Jack Simpson in 1991, until his death in 2008.
Jean had a great passion for her family and spent as much time as she could with her parents, sisters, children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She also had a great passion to help others and was a trainer and mentor to many during her career. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and gave back to the community. She was a dynamic person with an infectious personality. Jean loved to travel and get the most out of life. She will be missed.
Jean is survived by her three children; their spouses and four grandchildren; Will, Ryan, Joshua and Matthew. She is predeceased by her partner, Jack; her parents, Clesson and Auretta; and her sisters, Joan and Judy.
Because of the current public health situation, an in-person celebration of life is not possible at this time.

Jean was such a dynamic force and I loved her! She loved radio and radio loved her! Her colorful words always gave me a jolt and a smile. I was happy when she was my neighbor and disappointed when she moved away. I also loved our long walks and quick bites that turned into quick walks and long bites. Eventually it was just lunch! She was a super lady and I will remember her fondly.

Jean Menton was one of the most amazing and accomplished sales professionals I have ever worked with. She was my partner in crime when we launched the sales training program at Clear Channel in San Diego, which was a success because of her. She knew direct sales and AM radio inside and out. She had a tough exterior and could curse with the best of them, but beneath all that was the soul of a teacher and the most amazing heart. She loved life, she loved to laugh, and she loved selling and working with clients. Jean, you’ll make some great sales calls up there. RIP.
