How did you meet Janet?
I met Janet on a One Traveller holiday to the French Champagne region in September 2024. She was such fun to talk to, and as I had lived on the Isle of Man for some 20 years, we had plenty of stories of island life to exchange. For some reason four of us used to meet up almost every afternoon at a cafe that served excellent Irish coffee: Janet’s recommendation of course! Although I only spent a week or so in her company, Janet was one of those memorable people that you immediately bond with. Our ‘Irish coffee’ group all got on so well that we planned to meet up again on another One Traveller holiday to Prague in May this year; sadly this did not happen with Janet’s untimely death in February. But Jan Burt and I went on the trip, found a cafe that served Irish coffee, and raised our glasses in a toast to our beloved ‘absent friend’! Gone, but not forgotten: bless you Janet.

What is your favorite memory shared with Janet?
My favourite memory will always be our French holiday to the Champagne region when things got a bit toxic with the group we were holidaying with so Janet asked me if I liked Irish Coffee to which I replied of course so every afternoon we used to take ourselves off across the street to a lovely cafe and order an Irish coffee. Margaret and Janet, another two companions tagged along as well so we named ourselves the four Musketeers. It started with one Irish Coffee then the number per day increased to three, I do not think we had more than three as we had to get back to the hotel to change for dinner but sadly we did not take any photos of us. We did have a laugh and Janet told us some tales about living in her croft in Scotland and the renovations that were happening whilst she was away plus the farmers helping out with the shopping when the weather was inclement. She was old school and we all loved her for it - I was just so sorry that I did not get to visit her in Skye or see her again on our next holiday as it was because of Janet's insistence that Margaret and I booked to go on our trip to Prague. May the angels serve you Irish coffee in heaven, until we meet again. xx
