Janet Ann Baker, 79, from Jefferson, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Janet was born on May 11, 1945, in Montclair, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank (Dutchie) and Margaret Giessen, brothers Joseph and James Giessen, and son-in-law, Steven Eberhart. At 50, she achieved a milestone by obtaining her Associate of Applied Science degree from Lanier Technical College. She was a member of Galilee Christian Church and served as Treasurer of the Women's Ministry for many years. Janet's greatest joy was raising her eight daughters and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy Eberhart, Donna Smith, Michele and Ray Dohm, Joyce and Allen Head, Pamela Baker, Leslie Barthold, Kimberly and Gregg Crum, Megan and Ray Thoroman; fourteen grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Chasity Rossi, Taylor and Mallory Eberhart, William Morgan, A.J. and Josh Head, Dakota Fulcher, Cooper Violet, Avrie and Sophie Crum, Chance, Caiden and Corbin Thoroman as well as ten great-grandchildren, Riley, Cona-Bell, Leona, Mia, Zane, Grayson, Juniper, Charlotte, Dean and Everly. With a keen eye for design and beauty, Janet possessed many talents. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and drafting blueprints, but she was perhaps best known for her crocheting. Given the size of her family, it's safe to say she's crocheted hundreds of baby booties, blankets, and sweaters. She was an avid reader and loved studying the Bible with her friends at Galilee. She enjoyed her last two years surrounded by new friends at the Oakes at Limestone, where she served as president of The Resident Council. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Galilee Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Fuller Center for Housing.
