Jane created a wonderful family at MSMU. In Student Affairs we not only provided caring, valuable experiences for our students but also looked after each other like loving sisters and brothers. I will miss my mentor and friend, and especially her humor. May she rest in peace and I know MJB are laughing together again!

+1

As the sister and niece of Jane’s close friend, Mari, we are so sad not to feel her positive energy or fun facts here on earth but we know she is with her closest friends again eating pancakes and laughing.

In Gratitude, We Remember Jane We gather today with hearts lifted high, Not in sorrow alone, but in love that won’t die. For though you have journeyed to Heaven above, You’ve left us a legacy woven with love. A leader with wisdom, both steady and true, You showed us the best in all that we do. A mentor, a guide, with patience to spare, You taught us with kindness, with vision, with care. But more than a boss, you were truly a friend, One whose encouragement knew no end. Your laughter still echoes, your counsel still near, Your spirit reminds us there’s nothing to fear. You’d smile and remind us, when struggles befell, With gentle assurance: “All shall be well.” And now those words comfort, they steady our way, A gift from your heart we still hold each day. Gratitude carries us, shining and strong, Your influence shapes us, your lessons live on. In the work of our hands, in the lives that we lead, Your light is the compass, your wisdom the seed. So we honor your life with joy, not just tears, With memories treasured across all the years. Until we meet again, in Heaven’s embrace, We thank you, dear Jane, for your love and your grace.

During my time as a work-study student in Student Affairs I had the privilege of working under Dr. Lingua. For five years, she wasn’t just my boss she was a mentor, a guide, and a true example of leadership grounded in kindness. What stood out most about her was her ability to listen. She never made me feel small for my questions or uncertainties. Instead, she offered patience, wisdom, and guidance that helped me navigate the confusing stage of growing into adulthood. Her advice often reached beyond work it touched the kind of person I was becoming. She carried herself with grace, compassion, and humility, and she always created a space where students felt heard and valued. Her warmth made her office a place of encouragement and her words often became the steadying hand I needed during times of doubt. I will always remember her as someone who believed in me when I was still learning to believe in myself. The lessons she shared and the kindness she showed will stay with me, shaping the way I choose to treat others. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and the impact she had on those she mentored will continue to ripple outward. She truly embodied what it means to lead with heart.

In Loving Memory of Jane It is with deep gratitude and affection that I remember Jane, an extraordinary colleague, mentor, and friend whose light touched every corner of Mount Saint Mary’s University and far beyond. Jane lived with a rare combination of grace, strength, and joy. She gave so much of herself, her wisdom, her frankness, her compassion, her laughter -- and in doing so, shaped countless lives for the better. To her family and friends, please know how profoundly she was cherished by all of us who had the privilege of walking alongside her. Jane’s kindness, tough love, and generosity created ripples that continue to inspire our work, our community, and our hearts. She made us all better, more thoughtful, more hopeful, more human. Though I miss her, we carry her spirit forward in the way we attempt to care for others, in the joy we find in our purpose -- whether continuing to work with students and human beings, and in the love we bring to our daily lives. Thank you, Jane, for the beautiful legacy you’ve left behind. You will always be a part of us. With heartfelt remembrance and love, Dana

It is so difficult to put into words how much Jane meant to me. When I first started working as Jane's assistant in 2005, I had no idea how much our relationship would grow and change both in and out of the workplace. It took a few years, but we definitely found a great rhythm. I enjoyed really learning her vision and plans, creating worksheets out of her drawings, coming up with new themes and ideas for staff retreats, and all that comes with being a true "right hand." She challenged me to grow beyond my initial role, and in life....truly caring about me as a whole person. When the time came for me to plan my wedding, I could think of no one else I wanted standing with us, leading us into the next chapter. I am so grateful for the friendship that grew out of our working relationship. When she retired, it was so odd not having her nearby every day. I treasured every time we got together, or spoke on the phone, and feel so incredibly grateful for the years since. I will miss the incredible insight she had, and the joy of sharing our updates with one another.
