When I joined the AAUW, Jan was one of the first to make me feel welcome. We both shared a love of books, although her taste was so different than mine. Her choices made me read those I would not usually choose, and most of the time I loved the books. I loved her quiet voice and her giggle. She loved my fudge and when book club met at my house, I would often send her home with some. She hinted about a book club meeting where wine was served, and she promised to tell me about it some time in the future. I will never know that story, but my life has been enriched by having Jan in my circle of friends. My deepest condolences to her family.
