Jamie Mohr
March 18th, 1946 - August 16th, 2021
March 18th, 1946 - August 16th, 2021
On August 16, Jamie K. Mohr passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her husband. She kept amazing her doctors by how well she lived with cardiomyopathy for over 25 years. Only in the past couple of years did it slow her down, but she continued to enjoy family, friends and life.
Jamie brought a bright smile to every room she entered. Jamie’s love for her children, Sadie and Matthew, was a cornerstone in her life. Jamie loved BIG all around – so many knew the depth of her love – her husband Mike, her family, and her many friends she created over her lifetime.
Gatherings with Jamie and her friends were always full of silly skits, costumes and songs, and cherished moments of games and laughter. She was genuinely interested in and cared about people. One of Jamie’s legacies is the rich circle of family and friends with which she surrounded herself.
Jamie relished time outdoors taking quiet contemplative walks with her dog, family and friends. She loved skiing, hiking, horseback riding, cycling and music. She enjoyed adventure and travel, and her hobbies included painting, playing the violin and ukulele, golf, knitting, and bridge. And she loved being near water, especially the ocean. It energized her and made everything seem ok.
Jamie was born in Fairbault, MN, but lived most of her life in Colorado. She went to Golden High School and graduated from Western State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Drama. She taught grade school for several years and then became a trusted real estate agent for many years. Jamie is survived by her daughter Sadie, her husband Mike Haney, and her sisters Kerry Guildner and Penny Mohr. She was preceded in death by her son Matthew.
A Celebration of Life event for Jamie will be held October 9 at Mount Vernon Country Club from 10 until 1. In order to keep attendees safe, please wear a mask if you have not been fully vaccinated. Please RSVP to Mike at “jakehaney@yahoo.com” or 303.526.1267.

My mother loved Jamie. I remember proudly showing Jamie a water color of an aspen grove that we found in Mom's closet. We assumed Mom had painted during one of the brief respites from cancer. John and I had it framed and proudly hung it up. When I showed it to Jamie, she looked at it and smiled, then pointed to her own mother's signature in the bottom corner. We took it off the wall and, laughing, gave the painting to Jamie. What a joy she was to know.

When we met Jamie in 1997, she sold us more than a home on Lookout Mountain. She welcomed us into the community and we became friends. We made some of our best friends through Jamie’s introductions, and she continued years later to connect us with violin teachers and the wonderful Bibber Creek 4H run by Kristi. When she and Mike moved south about the same time as we moved north, we saw each other less. I treasure the times spent sharing wine in someone’s home, or a meal, or listening to her play violin at a recital. Oh, and the hours and hours house-hunting and Jamie’s patience with us. Jamie was wise and witty and I am so glad our paths intersected and ran together for a time.

As a childhood friend of Jamie's I wish I could join you at MVCC for your October 9 Celebration of Life event, but the distance between Colorado and New Jersey and my occupational responsibilities as a professor prevent me from attending. I do wish to offer some thoughts about my family's appreciation for Jamie. My mother (Jane Pollock) and Jean Mohr were close friends, and when my family moved, in the late 60s, to Atlanta, Georgia, so that my father could become a civil rights lawyer, Jamie inherited my younger sister Mary's horse Dandy Jamie was approximately the age of my younger brother Craig, and they attended Western State about the same time, both sharing a bewonderment with the outdoors. Because of that mutual love of nature, I sent Kerry, Penny, and Mike a eulogy I wrote in 1972 on the occasion of my younger brother Craig's death, at age 24, while returning to his Peace Corps post in Ecuador, envisioning his "rejoining" the mountains he loved so much. I also sent them a poem about my family's love of a rocky promontory on the north side of Kinnikinic Hill in Mt. Vernon, where we (the children) grew up, and where sister Mary and I scattered our parents' ashes in October, 2017. Since returning to the area, Penny has visited the outcropping, a place we call "Lion Rock", several times and has shared her appreciation of the location and view. I am thrilled that Penny has chosen to share those experiences with me. I have already communicated my empathy and sadness over the loss of Jamie to Kerry, Penny, and Mike, and now I do the same on this platform. I have indelible, nostalgic memories of Jamie as a coltish, frisky teenager at the Mt. Vernon swimming pool where I worked in the summers as a lifeguard and swimming instructor (along with, at one point, Kerry). She was so energetic and vibrant! Jamie was a warm, loving woman, and we are all fortunate to have been graced by her presence. Mike and Sadie and your extended families are in my heart and in my prayers. With deepest sympathy, John

Jamie and I became friends while we were living in Colorado and stayed in touch over the years. It was a pleasure knowing her and she truly had a life well lived. Rest in peace my friend.

I just ran across this video in my YouTube from when I interviewed Jamie several months back, along with Jamie's sisters - Kerry Guildner (my mom) and Penny Mohr for my Extraordinary Women Radio podcast. https://youtu.be/CHi_mRbnP6s I thought some of you may especially enjoy this Sadie Jean Mike Haney. Sending love to all of you, and enjoy this beautiful video that I will always cherish!
