James Paul Plummer, Jr. departed this earth to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 16, 2024. He was born September 4, 1933, in Ringgold, GA and spent his formative years in Nashville, TN. He married Anita Jo Wolf on November 11, 1952. He was Daddy to five daughters and Papa to twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

James served his country as a sergeant in the US army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and remained a diehard Vols fan to the very end. He was a member of the UT 50-year Alumni Club. James was an avid golfer, enjoyed a challenging game of chess and was quite the handyman. Before Parkinson’s Disease took away his ability to walk, he would walk three to five miles daily and bring home money, jewelry, tools and anything else laying on the streets he deemed as valuable. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, quick wit and dry humor!

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anita Plummer, brothers Lamar Plummer, Edward Plummer and Ralph Plummer, and his parents James Paul Plummer, Sr and Sadie Mae Plummer. He is survived by one brother, David Plummer (Marlene) and his daughters, Jan Fuller (Gordon), Phyllis Graham (Woody), Diann Boyles, Leslie Hurst (Grant) and Becky Weedmark (Ed).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Love everything about this man! So many memories and I could write so much but here are a few of my favorites. He introduced me to golf and played my first round at the country club up in Keokuk. Even though his shot landed on the fairway and mine lost in the rough we would spend 5 minutes trying to find my ball, unsuccessfully, but he would find 20 lost balls and hand them to me. I'm not sure he ever called me Stefan. He always had a nickname for me. Stef, Skippy, Scooter, Stefunoburger. I can hear his voice in my head with each nickname. All the mayhem he let me and my cousins do in his basement. Papa and Granny had moving boxes stored down there and we must of built forts, tunnels, wrestling mats and who knows what else. Funny thing is I don't remember ever picking up after ourselves. I'm sure after we left he was down putting it all away. I am so thankful that when my family moved back to Houston we got to spend the last years with him. Having him over for holidays and watching Tennessee football games, his presence was always felt with his infectious laugh and we always kept a Rootbeer chilled for him. Attached is my last photo with Papa but I have plenty more of him. While sad I won't get to see him anymore, I look back and see nothing but smiles, laughes, and the best of times with my Grandfather - Papa.

We celebrated Daddy's 90th birthday last year with a surprise party weekend. Family and friends were able to gather and celebrate a life well lived. Those who couldn't join, showered him with cards. It was an incredible gift to see his joy and share our love for him!
