I had the pleasure to work for Jim during the second time he was based in London. He was so generous with his knowledge and experience and admired and respected by all. I never knew him to get cross or angry - the worst thing he did was to tell one unprepared account manager that he was disappointed in them and that account manager was never unprepared again. I have fond memories of a Eurostar trip with our friend Libby to Paris to celebrate his 70th birthday and his patience and grace when we stayed with him in San Francisco. He really was one of life's good people.

My Cousin Jim has been a part of the fabric of my life since I was born. My mother (Eleanor Cunningham Prough) and his father (Willard/Hoppe Cunningham) were sister and brother. My mother even lived with Hoppe, Madeline, and the boys on N. Taylor in Kirkwood,MO, in the family home for two plus years before WW2 when she was in her 20's. She always felt a special bond with her two, then quite young, nephews, Jim and Jerry. There are many pleasant memories through the years of visits to Wilmette, IL, my first rollercoaster ride with Jim as my guide when I was 13 and he 21, various weddings, a Cunningham family reunion in Olathe, KS, in 1971, a wonderful visit with him in London for 2 weeks in 2004, and for sure all the times I stayed with him or my younger son, Marcus, when I visited San Francisco. Marcus, his wife, Yasmin, Jim and I had some very enjoyable times there over several years. Our cousin, Margaret (Maggie) Nelson, her husband, Dick, and I took a road trip last June, 2019, up the CA and Oregon coast with the goal being a visit with our cousin Jim. So grateful we did that - Jim was his usual gracious dear thoughtful self, and we had a fun time. I last spoke with him on July 28 during his Bday week. Though I feel very sad, I understand and wish him well on his journey with love and thanks for all the memories. Family is important and meaningful. The Cunningham family tree is wide and long and not easy to keep straight. My mother and cousin, Candy Cunningham David, are the ones who have gathered records, stories, and photos over the years and tried to get information organized. There's a lot of history. Bethia Ann Simpson and Oliver Cunningham had ten children and there are many branches. I am getting together pictures that feature my Cousin Jimmy ( yes, I still called him Jimmy when speaking with him ) and will add them when ready. Great job with the photos, Jenny C. - wish we had been able to see you last June and hope you are all safe there in Portland at this time.

As I read the obituary for Jim, all I kept thinking was, "yep, that's him." I have only had the pleasure of knowing Jim since he moved into Miramont Pointe. In that time, I had the pleasure of knowing him as a person and also a team member. I found Jim to be a kind, caring, and very thoughtful person. It's true. When he said something I knew I should listen. He filled several different resident positions while he was there and I could always count on him to be honest in his opinion, fair in his evaluation, and encouraging in his support. On more than one occasion, I sought counsel from him just from a business standpoint. One of the last times I saw him was when I offered to cut his hair. The Covid crisis had prevented the salon from being opened and he took a chance and let me give him a cut. I knew him pretty well so when he came out of the bathroom from looking at the cut, I knew something was on his mind. "Is it ok?" I asked. "oh, don't worry, it will grow out." It makes me smile because on the last day I saw him I asked him about his hair and he just gave me one of those Cheshire cat grins. My heart is very sad about the loss of Jim. What a kind, caring man and it was a pleasure and privilege to know him. Thank you, Jim, for everything.

Jim was a gentleman's gentleman. He was someone I was proud to call a friend. I have known him for 4 years which is a relatively short time in this life span but we were close and I will forever miss and remember him. Some people come into your life and quickly leave. Some people stay for a while and some people come into your life and you are never the same Jim was that person. HE was always willing to get involved and give whatever he was called upon 110%. He was treasurer and dining room chair of our resident council but most of all a friend I could call on. Rest In peace Jim. Fred Testa President Miramont Pointe resident Council
