James Carter Magill, III
March 22nd, 1945 - November 1st, 2021
March 22nd, 1945 - November 1st, 2021
On Monday, November 1, 2021, surrounded by his family, James “Carter” Magill III, peacefully passed into God’s grace at the age of 76. Carter had a severe stroke in June 2020 and was being cared for by his brothers since August of that year until his passing. Born March 22, 1945 in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Jame C. Magill Jr. and Alice D. (Kumhera) Magill, Carter grew up in Falls Church, VA. He graduated from Falls Church High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southeastern University, Washington, DC in 1976. Carter served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War then worked as an accountant for Washington Gas Company, the International Monetary Fund and as a Tax Consultant preparing tax returns before retiring to Williamsport, PA with his wife Donna. He was an active member of the communities in which he lived serving in various capacities. A life long avid sports enthusiast, he was very active as a player, manager, and supporting roles for men and women softball teams and leagues in Northern Virginia and Williamsport, PA. Carter was a devoted fan of Washington DC area sports teams Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, Capitals and Redskins. He loved going to beach (Nags Head), sporting events, concerts and was involved in a number of hobbies and community activities. Among many wonderful things Carter will always be remember for, one of the utmost, will be his fabulous sense of humor which was ever-present until the very end. Carter was predeceased by his parents, wife Donna (Lupacchino) Magill and nephew Paul Turner. He is survived by his sister Carolyn Caspary of Elizabeth City, NC, brothers John Magill of Falls Church, VA and Robert Magill of Herndon, VA and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews (including a namesake) in Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia. We are working on planning a memorial/celebration of life service (at a later time) and will let everyone know when details are determined.

I met Carter through my cousin Rick Bailey who lived in Falls Church,Va, they went to school together and worked at Safeway.. When I visited my cousin Carter and I became friends and became pen pal friends as I lived in PA. Carter had a great sense of humor loved his MGM and I remember about Playboy Club.

My deepest sympathies on the loss of Carter. I was also a student at Falls Church High School. I will always remember his teasing and wonderful sense of humor. Carter worked on some of the class reunions with me. I know he will be sorely missed by his family.

Carter was a friend for many years at Falls Chuck High and in decades afterword's. I'm sorry to see him go. Our Playboy Club will miss him. As his straight man, I will miss his sense of humor

I am so sorry to read this. I just found out about Carter (I always called him Mr. Magill no matter what), and he was always helpful--and he had the best sense of humor!!!

I knew lovely Carter from TRE dept at IMF. Did not know he was a Falls Church guy! I grew up in Falls Hill neighborhood and attended Marshall high and later bought a condo behind the Giant Food next to George Mason Falls Church high school.
