Whenever I reflect on my grandpa the first thing I think of is his spirt of content. Grandpa was always saying the words ‘I’m okay’. To be so content in a world where everyone is always for the next ‘want’ was such an admirable quality of his. I strive to have his peace. I pray that soon we will meet again in heaven, Rest in Peace Grandpa.

Even though I didn’t really see grandpa Maku as a loud person, he always seemed to have his presence felt in whatever room he was in. One of the memories that I remember from grandpa was the stories that he would tell about his childhood, adulthood, and even later years. Grandpa Maku will be missed though I know he is praising the Lord in heaven.

As a family, we have recently starting learning Itsekiri by using common greetings. Grandpa Maku was the first person who started teaching my siblings and I how to say thank you, good night, and other common sayings like that when we got the pleasure to visit him. I miss you Grandpa, and I won't be able to ask for any more Itsekiri teachings again, but I am happy that you are a much better place in heaven now.

It’s been 4 years since you left this sinful world to be with the Lord. With each passing year I am inspired by the exemplary life you lived on earth: financial discipline, humility, meekness, and constant learning. I miss you very much and I am grateful your legacy lives on through the lives of your children and grandchildren. Continue to rest in the Lord Odejuma Papa!

Daddy I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since you left us to be with the Lord. Your example of quiet strength has been a steadfast memory. Thank you for living a simple life and teaching my husband, by your example, principles of life that have been foundational in our family. You are missed today and loved so much!!!
