Loved Ones

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Enns on November 7, 2020.  She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband of 49 years John, her son Jeff Enns (Julia Werner Enns); her son Dan Enns (Kimberly Enns); her daughter Christy Epp (Darnell Epp); her grandchildren Kadin and Abigail Werner Enns, Tayo, Maelle, Coen Enns and Esa, Jonas, Nadiya, and Levi Epp; her siblings John Rempel (Jan Rempel), Ruth Voth (Kurt Voth) and Barbara Pederson (Rod Pederson) and numerous extended family members and friends.

She is predeceased by her father Peter Rempel and mother Gertrude Rempel.

Irene was born in Winnipeg and grew up on a farm just outside of Elm Creek, MB. She married John on July 31, 1971 and eventually they took over the family farm in Elm Creek, MB.  Since leaving the farm in 1988, Irene and John lived in Winkler, MB, Cochrane, AB and La Salle, MB. Irene and John enjoyed exploring in Manitoba and travelling throughout the world.  Irene loved to spend as much time as possible at her “Happy Place”, the cottage at Falcon Lake, visiting with family and friends.  They were fortunate to travel to Africa and Japan to spend time with their children, as well as exploring Europe.  It seemed like Irene was always doing something whether it was playing cards and board games, camping, outdoor activities like hiking and water sports, gardening, teaching her kids and grandkids to bake, visiting with friends and family or just relaxing and reading a book. Irene was a gifted, creative encourager, whether it was through her profession as a teacher, teaching painting classes, providing decorations and coordinating activities for church and community events. Her faith in Jesus Christ was very important to her.  Giving back to those around her was very important and Irene and John spent many hours volunteering at church events and for non-profit organizations.

Irene was described by friends and family as generous, caring, creative, strong, humorous, faithful, loving, accepting, which barely scratches the surface of describing this amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be always loved and never forgotten.

Her family is grateful for the 4+ years of relatively good health that Irene experienced since her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.  While her energy was reduced by the cancer and treatments, Irene still wanted to be involved.  The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the many family members and friends who have been such a tremendous support.

A memorial service will be held for close family and by invitation only.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beth Amani Safe House Ministry.  Beth Amani Safe House was close to Irene's heart after the visits her and John made to East Africa, visiting their kids. The director of the ministry is a Muslim-background believer whom Irene developed a special relationship with, even earning the title of 'mom'. This ministry was special to Irene as its' goals reflect Her life's passions: sharing the great news of Jesus with those who don't know him and then providing education

My deepest sympathies to you John and family. Irene was one in a million, which of course you well know. I have often thought of her when I look at the clouds and see unique formations as I'm reminded of how she encouraged our daughter in art class to always notice the many shades and layers of colours around us. This is one of the ways she passed on her love of nature and all God's creation. The years we worked together at LCS were some of my favourite. We didn't mind sharing a cramped office space as it allowed for lots of conversation and laughter every single day. Her laughter was contagious! I so appreciated any time spent with Irene, whether over breakfast or connecting at the lake when we were camping. Even with many months between visits, we could pick up where we left off without missing a beat and easily share from the heart. I'm so glad our kids could get to know her a bit too. She beamed when she spoke of her own grandchildren and her commitment to family was obvious to anyone who knew her. Irene was not afraid to speak the truth, in love. She taught me much both professionally and personally. I am deeply saddened by her passing and am so glad she was part of my life. I treasure memories of times together. Praying you find peace and comfort knowing that she is fully restored and in the presence of Jesus.

A beautiful picture of Irene who was a very special person. My condolences to John and the rest of the family for your loss. I have many fond memories of working with Irene, knowing her from the community, and as well she was once my son's teacher. She was always very kind and caring to us both. I know that she will be missed by many.

Wow, it's a week since my first virtual memorial service. To Uncle John, my cousins and their families - my deepest condolences on the passing of your wife, mother & grandmother (nana). Irene was a very special and person. I can relate to so many of the memories I heard during the memorial and in reading below. Special to me are my times as a young lad enjoying many summer vacations on the farm in Elm Creek. Include countless hours on the trampoline, 3-wheeler and living the 'country life'. Second special memory that really embodied A. Irene was my trip out to Cochrane with Jeff & Julia one February in our University days. A Irene was up every morning before the crack of dawn to ensure we had packed enough food for the day. She was also waiting at the door when we returned eager and interested in our adventures and hot food to fill our stomachs. The comment 'more the merrier' rings true. Last unique memory was of a couple of occasions when we were able to host U John & A Irene for a evening of cards. I remember A Irene commenting I you sure you want to have old people over? You could come to our house for dinner instead. Generous to a fault !! Cheers to a fantastic lady, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and more!

Neil and I Zoomed in to the memorial service for Irene on Friday. All the tributes were beautiful and unique to each person's experience with Irene. The picture in the obituary is priceless. It is Irene! All the best to you and your family as you prepare for Christmas without her. My response to people saying "life goes on" is always "Yes it does, but not in the same way". May you find comfort and courage in wonderful memories as you build a new life forward. With sincere sympathy, Neil and Herta

We would like to express our sympathy and our prayers. We rejoice that Irene is with her Heavenly Father, but it also leaves such sadness when we lose those closest to us. We have fond memories of the many times we shared together with John and Irene in the early days of marriage. Our prayers for you, John, and your family.
