Andy McCready

Ingeborg McCREADY

Inge McCready of Nanaimo, BC was born in Berlin, Germany the daughter of the late Paul Herfert and the late Klara Schonfelder. Inge and her first husband, Friedrich Allmansberger, raised their two children, Christine and Barbara, in Thannhausen, Bavaria, Germany. In July 1969 Inge, accompanied by her daughter Barbara, bravely emmigrated to Canada to make a new life. On arrival, she went to work for her brother, Gunter Herfert, at his store in downtown Winnipeg: German Canadian Meat Market. On her second day of work there she met her life partner, Emmanuel (Ed) McCready ( https://www.mykeeper.com/EdMcCready ), across the counter. Ed was smitten and helped her to learn English by reading ‘Peanuts’ comics with her. In September 1970 they married. Their union lasted for 50 years until his death on 19 November 2020. When Ed retired in 1979 they moved to Birds Hill in the countryside North of Winnipeg and took up commercial beekeeping. Inge supported the apiary community in Winnipeg by volunteering on the Board of the Manitoba Beekeepers Association. In 1987 Ed and Inge moved to the warmer climate of Nanaimo, BC. Inge was a good person! She was kind, thoughtful and accepting of people. Of course this meant that she was very family oriented and had a circle of close friends. She had a contagious laugh and had sweet German nicknames for those she loved. She was a warm and inviting host for her fantastic cooking – so good that she taught a cooking class for the Winnipeg School Division. Those recipes are amongst our favorites. Her niece Jeanette Scott (Herfert) was a great support to Inge in her last years, visiting regularly. Family and friends all thought highly of her, loved her and respected her views on life. Inge will be missed. Inge was sadly preceded in death by her two daughters Christine FIEDLER (Hans) of Thannhausen, Germany, and Barbara ALLMANSBERGER of Vancouver, British Columbia; and by her brother Horst HERFERT (Erica) of Berlin. She is survived by five siblings, Ruth MILLER of San Antonio, Texas, Günter HERFERT (Helga) of Nanaimo, Christa STRASSENBURG (Reiner) of Kirchenlamitz, Bavaria, Peter HERFERT (Irma) of Chilliwack, B.C., and Monica SEINHOLZ of Weilheim, Bavaria; granddaughter, Alexandra AGERER (Walter); great granddaughter, Nina AGERER and great great grandson (Toni AGERER), and many nieces and nephews.
