Ingeborg's daughter-in-law
Ingeborg "Inge" Gertrud Bohnet

April 1st, 1958 - April 10th, 2025
Ingeborg "Inge" Bohnet, 67, passed away on April 10, 2025, in Denver, Colorado, following a months-long battle with cancer.
Inge was born on April 1, 1958, in Nagold, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, where she spent her early years. As a young woman, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, as part of an exchange program at Washington University in St. Louis. Her son Felipe was born there in 1985.
A true citizen of the world, Inge pursued opportunities to explore different cultures and peoples throughout her life. This was reflected in her personal life, as she moved across the globe, living in cities including Bogota, Colombia; Washington, D.C.; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Crawfordsville, Indiana; and Medford Massachusetts. It was also reflected in her career in international marketing, which enabled her to travel around the world. Wherever she lived, she formed lasting friendships and connections.
Inge put her global principles into practice. She volunteered with refugees, teaching citizenship classes, and personally sponsoring a Syrian refugee family newly arrived in the United States. She also cared deeply about the environment and world peace.
Above all else, Inge cherished her role as Susanna and Simon’s beloved “Oma.” After moving to Denver in 2022, she devoted herself to her grandchildren, creating precious memories with them during visits to the zoo and science museum; and cooking delicious meals of goulash and rice pudding. Her loving presence and the wisdom she shared will remain an enduring gift to her family. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son Felipe Bohnet-Gomez and his wife Katie Shen; her grandchildren Susanna and Simon; her sister Ulrike Bohnet and her husband Miguel Pedrero of Madrid, Spain, and their sons Victor, Luis, and Max; her brother Albert Bohnet and his wife Christine of Stuttgart, Germany, and their daughters Julia and Laura. She also leaves behind her dear friends and in-laws June and Yutao Shen. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Gertrud Bohnet.
Memorial plans are to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Project Worthmore or the Denver Hospice.

Thank you so much for your kind words of sympathy! Your memories of Inge have touched us deeply. Even after more than a year, we still can’t believe that Inge had to leave us far too soon. We will lay her urn to rest in the family grave in her hometown of Nagold-Emmingen during a memorial service on July 31, 2026. My dear friend Inge has passed away and I’m hearthbroken. We were such good friends at Washington University in St. Louis. Last time I saw Inge was in Mallorca, Spain. I will always remember her smile, kindness and when she used to say ”Can you imagine, Susanne” My thoughts are with her son Felipe and family. I miss her so much! ❤️

In loving memory of Ingeborg, a dear friend, a brave soul, and a light in quiet moments. Though her body faced great challenges, Ingeborg carried herself with a quiet strength and grace that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. I had the honor of being by her side—not just as a caretaker, but as a friend, a companion, and someone lucky enough to witness her spirit each day. Our days were filled with small but meaningful moments. I’d cook for her, keep her home clean and cozy, make sure her groceries were stocked, and her laundry fresh and folded. But it was never just about the tasks—it was about sharing life together. We talked about anything and everything. We played gentle games to help her left side stay active, always cheering for each little victories. We tried our hands at knitting, listened to calming music, and found joy in the simple, quiet things. One of my favorite memories is how we’d bathe in the sunlight any chance we got. I’d take her outside, pushing her gently so she could feel the breeze on her face, the warmth of the sun on her skin. She loved those moments, and so did I—they reminded us both of the beauty still present in every day. Ingeborg was more than someone I helped. She became my friend. We built something real and lasting—rooted in patience, laughter, care, and a kind of love that only grows through time and shared experience. Though she is no longer here in the way she once was, I carry her with me. In every warm breeze, in every quiet morning sun, in every act of kindness—I feel her presence. She may be gone from this world, but she lives on in my heart, always. Rest in peace, Ingeborg. You are deeply missed, and forever loved. Your friend, Anna Zhong

Inge was a very special friend and I am so sorry to see this announcement only now. We met way back in Tuebingen and we came to St. Louis together, where were each others support and sounding board during our initial time abroad and after our return. I was at her wedding, I visited her in Germany and in all of the places she ever lived in the US; she came to see me in Washington several times. We stayed in touch and friends through the different stages of our live; unfortunately when she moved to Colorado we lost touch, but I always felt it was just a temporary glitch and we could catch up soon. Soon was meant to be now -- with her birthday coming up I tried different online searches and I am heartbroken that I find she passed away. There are not enough words to express how wonderful Inge was-- smart, with a heart of gold, fearless when it came to protecting those close to her. She also cared very deeply about the world at large and made personal efforts to help others, and to work towards more fairness at all levels. In our last talk she was full of joy about her grandchildren and the fact that she would now spend time with them. What a consolation that she had at least some time with them. I am heartbroken but I sincerely hope she is in a better place Anne-Marie

I just found out about Inge's death. I knew Inge at Washington University. I met her again a number of years ago in Boston. She was a wonderfully principled and kind woman. My sympathies to her beloved family and to her many friends. I will always smile when I think of her.
