Loved Ones

Hugh Edwin Thompson, 41, a native Hoosier, let go of pain and suffering on November 29, 2022, after a 2 year battle with an extremely rare cancer.

He was a 1999 graduate of Lawrence North High School (Indianapolis) who went on to earn a BA from Ball State University in 2004 and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan.

Hugh was extremely dedicated to the Department of Veterans Affairs where he worked as a program analyst for 9 years in Austin, Texas.  Among the many awards he and his team received, he was most proud of the award from President Obama for his work that recognized the completion of projects that directly helped veterans seeking services.

Growing up Hugh enjoyed boating on Dale Hallow Lake, TN, every summer and visiting different cities throughout the US, which fueled his adult love for travel – his favorites were Italy, South Padre Island, and Santa Fe.

Hugh kept up with the latest fashion trends, always made photo cards for birthdays and holidays, and was a thoughtful gift-giver.  He loved his family, nieces, and his 2 furry friends, Melvin and Oliver (but not necessarily in that order!).

Hugh was always quick to provide a book or movie quote in every conversation.   Always an avid sports fan, especially during football season, Hugh could be counted on to field a Fantasy Football team and join a pool for the men’s NCAA basketball championship games.

We will miss Hugh’s spirit for life.

Hugh is preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Avis Cochran, and grandfather, Meredith (Ed) Haun.  He is survived by his ever-supporting parents, Jack and Cindy Thompson, his grandmother, Virginia Haun, his sister, Jaclyn Olivas (Dario), his brother, Adam Thompson (Gena), and his beloved nieces, Luciana and Valentina Olivas.

In lieu of flowers, please send any memorial contributions in Hugh’s name to:  Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation, (acpmp.org).

Hugh, I would not be where I am in my life, my career, my family without your guidance. I owe you so much and I will miss you so much. Thank you for all the memories.

My favorite memories of Hugh are Hugh, Adam and me hiking through the woods, building forts, playing war games, all the things boys do. We had so much fun. I also have great memories of Jack teaching me how to waterski on Dale Hollow, with Adam and Hugh cheering me on. Hugh, I haven’t seen you in so many years, but your friendship with you from long ago left a lasting imprint. You were a fun-loving adventurer. I can’t believe your spirit has gone home, and far too early. I’m so incredibly sad, and I mourn with your family.
