He and his parents were later joined by his maternal grandparents and uncle in Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, he graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. A year later he married Catherine Fenili and proceeded to attend medical school at the Chicago Medical School. Following graduation he completed Internship and Residency training at the University of Miami/Jackson Medical Center and a Fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Chicago. Following his training, he proceeded to practice medicine for over 35 years. During his years of medical practice he also pursued his passion for history, reading a copious number of books, and visiting as many historical sites as possible in both the U.S. and abroad. He also loved to experience countless activities from sailing, camping, golfing, scuba diving, skiing, to ice fishing, curling, tennis, kayaking, and traveling. But his greatest joy was his three children and their innumerable activities and achievements which he never missed. His devotion to his family was unlimited. Guillermo was preceded in death by his father Guillermo Pons, Sr., and his mother Mercedes Munoz, and his beloved grandparents Ramon and Concepcion Munoz. Guillermo is survived by his sons William Pons and his wife Kristina Hon, Christopher Pons, and his daughter Rebecca Pons and her wife Luz Toro. He is also survived by his half-brother Frank Pons. Lastly, he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Catherine. Guillermo's passing has left a deep void in his family's heart and that of his colleagues and dear friends.

I worked with Dr. Pons for around 4 years in Danbury and he taught me so much during that time. Things that I still do today as a direct result of my time with Dr. Pons: I always ask, "What Else?" when I am faced with someone who has just gone through a complaint with me and who has not felt "heard" previously. Also, I always ask "Why is this important?" every day, as a measure of whether I am using my time appropriately. Sometimes, things that may seem important, aren't and of course it is easy to go off on a path and tank alot of time when perhaps you could redirect yourself. I also laugh sometimes, because I envision designing myself a t shirt that says "I (heart) data" which I think he would also appreciate. Dr. Pons is very much missed.

I enjoyed working with Dr. Pons & miss our conversations about family he was so very proud of each of his children. What I miss is that he was easy to talk to and his patients loved him he is sadly missed.I always remember him volunteering us for new procedures that were coming up to endocrine.I have enclosed a photo taken around Halloween time asking him to wear a patch and earring he was such a good sport about it he will be remembered fondly.
