Gordon Tribble
May 13th, 1967 - July 26th, 2025
May 13th, 1967 - July 26th, 2025
Gordon left this world far too soon, but not before leaving a dazzling mark on all our lives. His loving, caring, and supportive nature merited the highest admiration. He was a peacemaker, friend, and mentor to so many in the film world, and at home, while fighting for social justice at ever turn. Gordon always stood as a beacon of kindness, consideration, and loyalty.
Gordon was a joyous contributor to the vibrant fabric of the LGBTQ community, and a fierce advocate for what was right. He was a loving son to Stu and Cat Tribble, who he lived with on Vashon Island, a place he cherished dearly, along with countless family and friends around the globe.
Gordon's career was nothing short of spectacular. As an accomplished Hair Designer, Make-Up Artist, and Costumer for film, television, and live theater, he was a true artist. In 2020, Gordon was Oscar shortlisted for his incredible work on SOUND OF METAL, which went on to receive 6 academy award nominations. He has three new feature films set for release in the next year, including Netflix's NIGHT ALWAYS COMES, A24's THE DRAMA with Robert Pattinson, and the much-anticipated A24 Anthony Bourdain biopic TONY, where his 1975 styling work truly shone in a time period he loved working on.
In tribute to the charismatic star he was, Gordon’s Celebration of Life will take place on August 24th, 2025, at 2 PM, at Open Space Vashon on Vashon Island. In the spirit of his vibrant life, we invite all who knew and loved him to join us—to share laughs, perhaps some glitter, and a wealth of cherished memories.
While Gordon truly loved flower arrangements, he also would have liked his supporters to channel their funds into charitable causes to fight for what's right—he believed there was always something stylish in giving back!
Gordon, you were a bright star in the galaxy of our lives, and you are already terribly missed.

Reluctantly, I released Gordon at the beautiful Temple at Burning Man with this tribute. The photos spanned our 40 year friendship and included a couple of gems I nicked off Facebook that some of his other friends posted (thank you!) On Sunday night, the temple burned along with all of the tributes inside as a silent crowd watched. The flames could be seen across the playa and within them, Gordon's soaring spirit.

We grew up together, oddballs in a redneck desert town, destined to be friends. Although we grew apart, there was always love. A bright light gone too soon. May the memory of his sparking presence bring a smile to those who loved him in the dark moments.

While I only just met Gordon, I feel so lucky that I had the chance to work with him on his final film. One weekend in June, near the end of production, I was going to visit my family. Gordon saw my neglected head of hair which was shaggy and unkempt from months away from home and he said "I can't let you go see your wife looking like that" and he took the time and care to have me sit in my chair and clean me up. He was always warm, kind and generous and will be dearly missed for years to come.

Gordon. I wish we could have had that last drink together. But that message that I sent you, please know that I truly meant every word. Your many stories made my sides split with laughter. You illuminated any place you walked into and filled the most drab and gloomy places with your light. And in quieter times, thank you for your constant love and support, and for helping me out of that hole and for showing me there was still joy in my world. It was a privilege and a blessing to have had you in my life. There are no other Gordons in the world and there never will be. Will miss you, always. Sending love to Cat, Stu, and your family, and the countless people who will miss him dearly.

Gordon was such a special force in my life. We met each other in the mid 80s and continued to be close like brothers throughout the years. His wit and humor I will always cherish. His love unwavering. A true artist and a true friend. I love you, Gordon with all my heart.
