Celebration of Life Sunday February 18th (see events page)

Gordon Thomas Murphy was born May 26, 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta to parents Belva and Maurice. He passed away January 25, 2024 in Vancouver, leaving a legacy of love that will live on in our hearts. Gordon is survived by brother Tim Murphy, sister Merilyn Croslin, his daughters Marni Murphy (Larry), Amber Murphy-Smith (Ryan), his stepchildren Teresa Peters (Kevin), Tim Peters (Aynsley), and grandchildren Nathan, Olin, Citta, Arlo, Emma, Kaitlin, and Isaac.

As the son of a Minister, Gordon’s early days were busy traveling with his parents and siblings Tim and Merilyn. His father passed suddenly in Australia when he was only ten years old, the family, devastated but resilient, returned to Canada, settling in Vancouver. Gordon's kind and fun-loving spirit uplifted those around him. In highschool he was class president, dabbling in music, sports and theatre. His favorite job in his youth was lifeguarding, not only was he awarded for saving a boy's life, this is where he met his first wife Ingrid, mother of his two daughters, and friend until the day she passed in 2016. They had many wonderful years in their Richmond home where Gordon was often the initiator of fun neighbourhood events. Gordon studied business, worked for many years in sales, and loved philosophical ponderings, writing and the healing arts. In his 40’s he met his second wife Lillian, and their dynamic love story spanned over 30 years with their final home in Ladner, and her passing in 2021.

Gordon endeavored to make this world a better place through human connection. His kind, helpful, playful, creative, and loving nature will be dearly missed by family and friends. Rest in Peace dear grandpa, dadeo, brother, uncle, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vancouver Hospice Society in Memory of Gordon as they took such good care of him.

Dear Marni and Amber and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Gordy as genuine and kind. He was so fun and funny. When we were kids growing up, he was my idea of the perfect dad and his love for you girls was so very evident. I remember how he always made sure that we were all having fun. Remember when he promised to take us to every playground in Vancouver? He was the best. Sending you so much love and wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
