On October 10th, 2020, Gordon Chaney passed away from Covid-19 at Highlands Regional Hospital, Sebring, FL. Gordon was born February 28, 1935, a native of Chicago, Bears and White Sox fan. We could hear him yelling OR celebrating a play 3 doors down. He always met you with a bright smile and a hearty welcome. He was the son of Talbert and Julia Chaney, brother of Robert Chaney, and stepbrother to Eugenia Chaney. My dad married my mom, Marlene A. (Abruzino) Chaney in 1958. They had 5 children: Cary (Tracy) Chaney, Jeff (Linda) Chaney, Glenn (Cheryl) Chaney, Julie (Craig) Perry, and Scott (Bridget) Chaney, 10 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. Gordon later married Paula Roos in 2002, acquiring 3 stepkids, 9 grandkids and 2 more great grandkids. Paula (77) also passed away the same weekend from Covid -19 on October 13th, 2020. The two were always together. They left their kids and grandkids heart broken not having seen them in so long due to COVID. BUT they also left each of us memories we will forever cherish. As his children, we recall saturday morning wake ups from the top of the stairs with a thunderously loud clap followed by a ""GOOD MORNING…."" to rouse the 5 of us, followed by his famous ""Gordy chuckle"". Paula loved to involve the grandkids in enjoying sea creatures and the ocean and pictures to share of precious time together. She always shared a word of encouragement from her heart. Gordon was a graduate of Mt. Carmel H.S., an army Veteran of the Korean war, and a fundraising representative of the Boy Scouts of America. He retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Rail Road. My dad loved the water whether looking from the binoculars of his 25th floor office looking out onto Lake Michigan, sailing the the Great Lakes, sunning, or fishing. He spent many long vacations in sunny Florida, where he dreamed of retiring. My dad was always involved in a project with his hands. If there wasn't one needed to be done, he created one . Paula joined my dad with a love of the sunny warm waters of the Florida coast where he fulfilled his dream as he moved to the Keys. They each gave us so many memories to remember them. We will be honoring my father's wishes by sprinkling his ashes over Lake Michigan. May they both rest In peace at home with Jesus.
