Eileen Williams

Geta You were the eldest sister of 4 girls, and nearly nine years older than me. You like to be known as 'Ionie' but, many family members like me, always called you 'Geta' which you just answered yes! With a smile. Geta... You were one of the most popular and well-liked member of the Williams family, as well as a much-loved student at all the schools and colleges you attend. Indeed, You had many friends; on many occasions, I was your "chaperone" at every young age. When you meet any of your friends." I was known as little Eileen" despite the fact I was nearly as tall as you. Geta... You had a great sense of adventure and fearless characteristic; You loved the challenges trying new things and ventures that crossed your path. You loved to shop for clothes in Birmingham, and you took me when you started to earn a wage. We shared the same love of shopping and visited new places. Geta... You attended parent's events, defended us if anyone tried to bully us. You allocated and shared your time with your siblings, which was always fun. You were my first hairstylist, as a child for a special occasion you would press all our hairs (straightening hair). You taught me how to pressed hair. If fact you taught me to do 'Afro' like the Jackson fives, by Chinese bumping hair the night before. You were the most patient natured sibling and softly well-spoken member of the family, considering you were born in Jamaica. You spoke English all the time and frowned when we spoke bad patios. You always saw the good in everyone and encourage me to do the same. I would say that really; you had a childish, playful character; you would like to provoke or tease "for instance, that we would lose our fingers if we didn't stop sucking our thumb... Oh yes, and write letters from boys, saying the letter came in the post to me. You were always good at persuading, and negotiating with anybody, including mum and dad into changing their minds for us to visit friends or go to the local youth club and later going clubbing. Geta... You love listening to reggae music and play them over so many times; we learnt the words. You collected reggae records regularly and taught me the latest dance moves. Your children were later exposed to the same rituals. I went to my first club with Geta, and it was called the 'Rising Star because of my heights. I had no problem gaining access. Geta. Your competitive sporty nature was highlighted by your love for all types of team games such as netball, rounds and athletes. I followed the same path as you, by representing my school and them College in playing netball. We were never bored while you were at home. You shared so many skills because you loved teaching us new skills such as playing board games, cards, playground games, like skipping, and two-ballers Including marbles. Geta. You shared your love for cooking and baking skills and explained the techniques. When mum just said, watch and learn'. You taught me how to cook English dishes and traditional Jamaican dishes; Also, you provided me with accurate information, such as the quality of ingredients and how to bake Jamaican puddings and rum cake. Geta You were the sweetie's queen because you thrived on knowing and trying all the new sweets and you always gave us "a little taste" .regardless of how much stash of candy you brought!!! I was please with your sweetie education because when I entered a quiz online to name fifty sweets, I scored 49 out of fifty thanks to you. You loved to reading comics "Bunty" "Jackie" because you got picture A3 size of the Jackson fives, and I remember that their eyes in the pictures seemed to follow me around the bedroom. When I mentioned the matter to her, she dismissed it and told me not to look at them!!! Also, Mills and Boom books we were not allowed to touch them. . Geta, thank you for all you have done for me God bless you...

To my dear friends Mwalima and Siblings. On behalf of my mother and I we would like to say how sorry we are to here of the sad news of the passing of your beloved mother. We are truly saddened by this. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy at this sad time. There is a lovely African proverbs. “It takes a village to raise a child” I remembered knocking the front door asking auntie Ionie if I could come and play. She would shout Mwalima Collis is here to play, make sure you play nicely. Auntie Ionie was so warm-hearted, loving, caring, kind and she interacted with me very positive. She makes me feel welcome and safe in her home environment. Life will not be the same without your mom who was so wonderful. We will remember her with fond memories RIP Auntie Ionia.

With great sadness and regret, but happiness and pride I write these words. My sadness and regret is that our mother, our queen, our warrior is no longer with us to help or guide us through times like these. But I know she will be right by our sides smiling. Mum wouldnt want us to bury our heads in sadness. That’s not what our mother was about, we must smile and as she would and never let sadness effect our lives. So smile for me have a laugh greet your neighbour tell them that’s its ok we are here for one another. When I talk of happiness and pride we are lucky to have be graced with the luck to spend some time with such a phenomenal, extraordinary and amazing woman our mother. Her smile, grace and elegance was like that of the great African queens we learnt off. She would enter a room and the room would become lit like when we imagine what it would be like in the great pharaoh and Egyptian times. When I look back at our mother it was like having our own Neffatiti but better, our queen our mother. Our mother strength surpassed, it was like how we talk about Queen Nanny. Our mother was ready to help anyone and her presence was grand and bold. She was soft and cuddly, but was as hard, precious and rare as diamond unbreakable. Make anyone trouble her family and her nanny queen aura would come to light. Even though some would say she was stuck in her ways for me she was our own Rosa Parks, that knew what was right or wrong for her or us. She used her courage, strength and knowledge how she saw fit. We were lucky to have our own Mary Seacole that nurtured and took care of us. She would take care of us and nurse back us to good health no matter the issue. Friends and family have been healed at some point or another by her caring hands in her life. Our mother was a teacher like Suzie King Taylor that no matter what was before her, she continued to teach and guide us. Her words were powerful and meaningful like Maya Angelou. My mothers words and teachings will forever run through our minds and hearts and her wise words passed down to our children. Hearing her teachings in our minds will be like the sweetest song like drums heard to call upon the ancestors Her love of art is seen in her children and the grandchildren and great. The power of art is that you will only see what you choose to and my mother was fine art. Our mother was like Harriet Tubman that lead and guided us through so many battles for us to sit here and talk of our wars my mum strength is in us all. My pride of my mother is like no other she was and still is more than a mother or these few words. Nothing can be said or wrote that could truly tell you of the quality of a woman, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, or friend she was to us all. She was a lot more that these great figures in history I talk off. She was all and more, our mother will stand tall in our hearts and memories. My sister, daughters and nieces will continue her legacy with the strength, will and knowledge to believe anything you want you can be achieve. We love you mum, your our hero, warrior, strength and love. May our ancestors watch and hold you tight care for you until we meet again Mum our queen our warrior miss you already but I know youll be fine until we meet again love you Ase

Miss Me But Let Me Go Author unknown When I come to the end of the day And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love we once shared - Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must take And each must go alone It’s all part of the makers plan A step on the road alone When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds - Miss me, but let me go Rest in eternal peace Ionie from Dawn & the Vernon family
