George William Bynum, 74, of Greenville, SC, passed away on April 30, 2024 shortly after suffering a stroke. George was born on December 16, 1949, to Edward Turner Bynum and Ruth Minton Bynum in Sanford, NC. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from NC State. He worked for various companies over his 50-year career in hydraulics/pneumatics, and loved solving the various problems that his clients posed with each call. He is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter Elizabeth, of Charleston, SC; and son Edward (Jamie) of Granada, Spain, with their children Ruthie, Solomon [Sully], and Story. George’s family grew when he remarried, and he is also survived by Patty’s children, Brian (Lindsey), with children Lennon, Scout, Poppy, and Wilder; Brad (April), with children Samuel, Abby, Charlotte, and Hudson; Stephen (Charity) with children King, Eden, and Boaz; and Traci (Harrison) with children Mae, Oliver, James, and Penelope. George is also survived by his sister Elizabeth (David) Ward, of Raleigh, NC, and nephews David (Emily) and their family; and John (Annie) and their family. George’s favorite thing to do was to sit at his computer, reading and learning about anything he could. We have discovered since his passing that he regularly shared a carefully curated selection of articles about nearly any topic with the specific person who would find it most interesting. He was always available to help anybody with anything he could, and there were few things that he couldn’t help with. He was a presence at his grandkids’ sports, plays, and choir performances. He had a knack for seeing the things that interested the people around him, and a generous heart to give gifts that they would appreciate. More than once he expanded horizons by giving a young boy a length of rope. George preferred not to be the center of attention. At George’s request, there was no service, although his family gathered to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in support of his son Edward’s missions work in Spain. You can find details at https://support.ebynum.com.
