George Bennett of Green, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on January 31st, 2026, leaving behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Beverly (Bev), along with a large extended family whom he loved dearly.

George was born one of six children in Cambridge, Ohio on July 4th, 1937 to Benjamin and Faye Bennett. Throughout his childhood, George developed a curious nature that often led to memorable experiences and plenty of mischief. He was never short on creative ideas, or scapegoats to take the fall.

After graduating from Canton Lincoln High School in 1955, George took a position at The Timken Company. During this time, he met Bev at church, a meeting that would shape the course of his life. The two married in Canton, Ohio on March 6th, 1959.

Bev encouraged him to pursue a degree in education at Kent State University, which led to a lifelong love of learning and teaching. After graduation, George spent 30 years teaching Industrial Arts and Mechanical Drawing. Outside of the classroom, George worked on the coaching staff for the Green Bulldogs football program.

Over the years, George and Bev poured their love into their nieces, nephews, and extended family, treating each one as their own. George lived by the principle that "blood comes first," and he backed up those words through countless acts of generosity and support for family and his community.

The couple also spent decades serving their church, where George taught Sunday school for many years, sharing his faith with young people and helping to guide their walk with God. Whether it was a neighbor who needed help or a family member facing hard times, George and Bev showed up, always putting others before themselves.

George had a voracious appetite for history and loved the outdoors. In their later years, he and Bev traveled the world together, with George's deep knowledge of history transforming every trip into an immersive experience. The two found peace in nature, whether biking, exploring, or simply being outside.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Faye Bennett, and siblings William Bennett, Robert Bennett, and Ruth Aukerman. He is survived by his wife Beverly, siblings Karen Lebano and Marlene Miller, and the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry forward his legacy of putting family first.

George made an immeasurable impact on everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share your memories of George on this site.

A Celebration of Life will be held for George this summer. Details will be posted once they are finalized.

George's thirst for adventure and his desire and ability to do things himself made being with him an adventure. He an Bev camped with us many times, I will save those stories for this summer. Not many elementary aged kids learned or were allowed to drive a bulldozer, tractor or dump truck. That was a normal day for Tim, Mike and I with Uncle George. Once you learned though, you were expected to be part of the project. He trusted us to do our part. We moved lots of sand over several summers. They always took an interest in the extracurricular things going on, sports, band, boy scouts. On Sundays at church, he always wanted a report of how things were going and would give his ideas to make them better. For many summers They directed vacation bible school at the church. It was ALWAYS an adventure. As a pastor for many years vbs was always one of my favorite times. It always took me back to those childhood adventures with George and Bev. The last time we were at the house, I was just walking around and looking. He asked me what I was doing and I explained that many of my best memories of my childhood were spent there. We laughed and embraced over those memories. They are still some of my best!

George was always a kind and loving gentleman. He made me feel welcome as a grafted in member of the Bennett family. Our favorite joke was to pay each other $1.00 when we visited our respective homes. This was to cover the cost of coffee and other necessities. He will be sorely missed.
