Gary's Child
Gary Mitchell Scott

"...to wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving." - Kahlil Gibran
Gary Mitchell Scott, 70, of Port Hueneme, CA, passed away suddenly at his home on June 15, 2024.
Born on June 28, 1953, in Oak Park, IL, Gary spent his formative years in Lincoln, NE, where he held many fond memories. After graduating from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1971 where he excelled as a competitive swimmer, he spent time working and traveling abroad. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1978 with a degree in Biology. During this time he met and fell in love with Marion, and they were married in 1978. They were together for 24 years and brought four children into the world. He always taught his children to take “slow, careful steps” and to be grateful to be alive. He instilled in them confidence, curiosity, and a love for nature, music, and the arts.
Gary went on to build a long and successful career in real estate while residing in Colleyville, Texas, relishing the entrepreneurial freedom he always desired. He later returned to California, living in Santa Cruz, Lake Arrowhead, and finally, Port Hueneme. A true Renaissance man, Gary had a diverse range of interests and talents. When he wasn’t working diligently toward his real estate and investment goals, he could be found walking barefoot in the sand, practicing piano, playing backgammon, or deep in conversation with anyone who’d listen about astrophysics and the inner-workings of the universe. His many passions included hiking, health, motorcycling, snowboarding, film, and philosophy. He was always eager to test the young and old alike with his riddles, tongue twisters, and optical illusions pulled from his back pocket. His love for nature and the outdoors was evident in his everyday life, and he found joy in the simple pleasures.
Gary had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, an infectious energy, and an intense love for life and his entire family. He was a beacon of wisdom and encouragement, always reminding those around him to cherish every moment.
Gary is survived by his children, Paul (Jana) Mayne, Sarah (Jean Michel) Alperin, Jasmine (Sharone) Rotkopf, and Caitlin (Brendan) Hawkins, and their mother, Marion Scott; his step son, Maksym Sobolyev and his mother, Natasha; his nine grandchildren; his brother, Jon Scott; his sister, Julie (George) BuAbbud; his partner, Elizabeth; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millicent and Bob Scott, and his brother, Greg Scott.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA. Please contact the family for further details.
Gary's legacy is one of love, curiosity, and a zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Daddio, I miss you so much it hurts. The last two have been too hard. We all were supposed to be together on father's day but the universe had other plans. Your sudden passing took us all by shock and my heart breaks. I miss your voice, your words of wisdom and just knowing you are there. Today you should be turning 71. Happy heavenly birthday my sweet Dad, I miss you so.
