Fujiko Arinaga Mamura, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Waimanalo, Hawaii on March 4, 2018. Fujiko was born on July 20, 1922 in Kealia on the island of Kauai. She was the oldest daughter of six children whom she helped raise. Fujiko cherished her family and eventually started one of her own with her husband Misuku. She was an active member of her community and an avid volunteer at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Fujiko, lovingly called the “songbird of Kealia,” enjoyed singing, gardening, and dancing at Obon festivals. She valued her health and family above all and will be deeply missed by all of those she touched during her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her husband Misuku Mamura; son Owen Mamura; parents Tomihei and Kunie Arinaga; and brothers Naoto, Masashi, and Clifford Arinaga. Fujiko is survived by her daughter Gail (Hernando) Rombaoa; son Nathan (Pranorm) Mamura; daughter-in-law Judy Mamura; brother Tom Arinaga; sister Rachel Tamura; sister-in-law Esther Arinaga; grandchildren Naomi (Jason) Tanaka, Matthew (Nikki) Mamura, Melissa (William) LeFever, Maya Mamura, Marcie Mamura, and Clare Mamura; great-grandchildren Aubree and Isabelle Mamura; and many neices and nephews. Fujiko will be forever remembered by her family and friends. Private services were held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on March 7, 2018. Friends may join the family at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission on April 21, 2018. Visitation begins at 4 p.m., followed by services at 5 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Dear Grandma, I'm sorry we never got to meet. You have a lovely granddaughter in Melissa and we are so happy to have had her join us as a part of the LeFever family.

Thank you mama for your unwavering love and support over the years. In hard times you stepped up, sacrificed for family, and touched many with your hard work, talent and kindness. In scouting we learn to leave the campsite better than we found it. Mama, you did a great job; you made me a better person and I will cherish the happy times we had together.

Dearest mama, Thank you for all that you have done to welcome me into the family. You always showed me love and kindness, and made me feel at home. I feel great sadness for a world without you. Although my family and I spent many years apart from you, you never were far from our thoughts. You’re the best mother-in-law; give dad our hello and thanks when you see him. Love, Pranorm

Grandma, it’s hard to imagine a world without you in it. I have known you all my life, looked up to you, laughed with you, and made mochi with you. You taught me so much about family values, a strong work ethic, and the importance of slowing down to appreciate the quiet moments in life. You were always putting others before yourself. I hope you are able to find comfort in your new resting place among loved ones. You will be forever missed and always remembered. I love you, Grandma!
