Eligio Velasquez
My name is Lee Velásquez. It was December of 2001 or 2002, when our son Daniel Lee Velásquez was a teen that Fred Delgado got our son and car out of a snowbank on Ensenada NM County Road 328. That winter day was the start of an enduring friendship and family connection that grew stronger over the years. Fred, as all who truly knew him would agree, was an honest and fair minded man, a master welder, and a genius mechanical problem solver. He loved María and they loved Ensenada, their children, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. Through NM family research I learned that Fred Delgado and I are distant cousins. His wife María Roybal Delgado and I are closely related as well, and for that reason I call her hermanita. After a two day road trip from California to New Mexico, on August 3rd of 2022 I stopped by the Delgado family home in Ensenada NM to see Fred and get his take about my well pump’s lack of water output, as I had consulted with him so many times before. I was met by my bereft hermanita María Delgado who told me her husband Fred Delgado had suddenly died two days earlier. Of course I was shocked and did what I could to console María. What more can I say? I’m a few years younger than Fred and have lost another dear friend.
