Fran Shannon
August 11th, 1955 - July 7th, 2019
August 11th, 1955 - July 7th, 2019
Fran Marie Shannon (nee Fannin) passed away in Boca Raton, Fla., on Sunday, July 7, from cancer-related complications. She was surrounded by many family members and friends.
Fran was born on August 11, 1955 in Kirtland, Ohio, and is a graduate of Kirtland High School. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Shannon; her mother, Blanche Fannin; her siblings Jo Anne Fannin, Sue Tunstall (Steve), Brian Fannin (Lori), and Shari Fannin; her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, her loyal pup Swiffer, and an exceptionally large extended family of devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Fannin.
Fran is remembered as the glue that held people together — the one who planned vacations, hosted Thanksgiving, and made time to visit family and friends no matter how near or far. She was the first to help when someone needed it, offering advice, a place to stay, financial support, an ear to listen, and always, an open heart.
She was a champion of her family, sure to tell them when they made her proud. Making Fran proud was something everyone aspired to do. Fran’s sharp wit, sense of humor and intelligence left lasting impressions on those who knew her. She had a unique way of telling it like it is, but with no shortage of love.
She spoke up for what she believed in, took action, and strived to make the world a better place. She always addressed every challenge with a pragmatic fearlessness, whether it was a cross-country trek in a Volkswagen bus or taking on the role of head-of-household after her father passed.
Fran’s life was packed with adventure, traveling the world with Ed, friends and family. She was active in the lives of her loved ones, always attending special events, sending notes and gifts “just because,” and making her home a welcoming retreat for visitors. She lived in several parts of the United States, including her hometown of Kirtland, Ohio, and then later in life moving to Albuquerque, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Pinehurst, and finally, Boca Raton, nearby several life-long close friends.
She was a highly respected professional, with five years working for BP, 20 years at Hunt Manufacturing, and nearly 14 years at QAD, Inc. She attended The University of New Mexico and Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business for her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in MIS, respectively.
Fran’s memory will be held fondly and firmly by the many, many people who love her. The family is hosting private gatherings in her three home states of Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio to celebrate Frannie’s life. For those wishing to honor her, they gratefully request donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Fran’s name in lieu of flowers.

The first time I met Fran was in Atlanta 10 years ago for a team meeting. We connected immediately as she had that personality which makes you want to be friends instantly. She had so much to give and hardly ever expected anything in return. Fran could make difficult tasks simple and had a mysterious ability to keep everyone on the team organized and productive even during the most chaotic times. She would defend her team fiercely and we all loved that about her. She really cared about everyone she worked with. Her "just peachy" ot "just another day in paradise" response to the "How are you" question always brought a smile to everyone's face. Even when she disagreed with me, she would yell at me in one instant and offer help in the very next one. I always welcomed her wise insights and helpful tips. I miss her dearly. She will continue to live on in our hearts forever.

From her colleagues at QAD: Fran was the bright smile & voice in every meeting keeping us all on track and engaged. Its a terrible loss for us all and she will be greatly missed. Fran was the most fantastic, optimistic enjoyable person I ever worked with. We lost a good friend and will remember her like that forever. I've always enjoyed working with Fran. She was always so helpful and positive in everything she did. She will be sorely missed. Fran was such a good, upbeat friend and always a pleasure to spend time with. She was such a key player and voice of sanity on the team and I looked forward to her frequent wisecracks. She's going to be sorely missed. Fran has been such a dedicated member of your team whose contribution will live in our products for many years to come. Though unwell she worked right up to the eleventh hour. She was so well regarded in QAD and I have the utmost respect for her. She will be deeply missed and our hearts go out to her husband Ed, family, and friends. Fran was a joy to work with, not just sometimes, always. She will be missed Fran was a wonderful person and coworker, always sure to spot inefficiencies and propose improvements to our process - always delivered with delightful wit. Glad she kept her humor that whole time. Such wonderful spirit - she will be deeply missed... Fran was the brightest member on our team, always cheerful and full of warmth. She had a sunny attitude to everybody and everything and made every our day "just another day in paradise". She will stay in our hearts and we will miss her sorely... Although I did not have the pleasure to work closely with Fran, in all my conversations I had with her she was, as mentioned by a lot of people, very optimistic, helpful and friendly. This is a great loss to the team, and she will be missed greatly. Fran was always a pleasure to work with and as everyone has said had a very optimistic and friendly attitude to work. She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My experiences working with Fran for a few years at QAD were always very good ones, and we became friends quickly. She was upbeat, energetic, and adaptable, always ready for the next challenge that came our way. She was one of those people who can almost miraculously juggle many tasks at once without missing a beat. And she was a superb listener who could keep a group of diverse, disagreeing people organized and pointed in the same direction, helping everyone in every way that she could. It was always a pleasure to talk with her and, those few times when I was lucky enough, to meet her in person.

Frannie is so terribly missed along our life’s way, and she is quietly remembered every day... She is no longer in our life to share, but in our hearts, she will always be there. As Gandhi said “There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
