Florence Bernstein Kahn

Ebbs and Flo’s ~
Florence Bernstein Kahn of Royal Oak, MI, and Cleveland, OH (Plantation, FL and Roswell, GA) died Friday, April 9, 2021, after a sudden decline in health at the age of 93.
Florence Pearl Bernstein was born on Monday, March 12, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Minnie (Molein) and Isadore Bernstein. Florence was the adoring youngest sibling to her beloved brothers Joseph Berne (deceased) of California and Cleveland and Robert Berne (deceased) of Cleveland. She graduated from Glenville High School in 1946 and was confirmed at The Park Synagogue of Cleveland, Ohio.
She attended Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, and Cleveland Community College with an interest in teaching foreign languages. Flo was a beloved family member and friend and a natural connector and cultivator of loving relationships and friendships. She took great joy in children and nurturing them. She was an artist including pursuits in painting, bead work, flower arranging and an early interest in fashion design.
Flo was a life-long animal rights activist. She remained keenly interested in current events and news. Once she held you in her heart, she never let you go, and always remembered your birthday and those of your children. She embodied “your people are my people”.
There was nothing more important than family. Florence Kahn, married Jerome L. Kahn (deceased), and is survived by her four children: Lynda (Jack Pearpoint) Kahn, Marilyn (Stanley) Gilbert, Steven (Marian) Kahn, Michelle (Michael) Brooks. She stayed current and curious about the various interests and talents of her six grandchildren, and had special relationships with Amanda and Rob Kahn, Corey and Marissa Brooks and Laura Lobosco (Chris Curley) and Rebekah (Peter) Lobosco Gilli, and her great-granddaughter Hazel Ilana Lobosco Curley to whom she was her beloved 'GiGi'. She of course delighted in all the ‘fur children’ in the family, of which there are eight cherished pets.
Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the charity of your choice. Memories and photographs are most welcome here on my keeper.com

This is the end of an era - Flo, always put together, was elegant and charming. She had a great sense of humor and could even be a bit bawdy at times. We had a lot of fun over the years and I learned much from her. I learned to make sure the doors were locked, to write my thank you notes, eat my vegetables and always remember other's kindnesses. I miss her tremendously.

My Grandma was always so interested in other people. And they returned that affection. Friends who only met her once would routinely ask about her, and she them. There are already new things I wish I could tell you Grandma. We'll all miss you.
