I’m sorry we fell out of touch, big sister. I only learned of your death a few days ago, and I’ve been thinking about what a pivotal role you played in my development as a writer and as a young queer person coming to terms with their identity. Collaborating with you on “Villainy Wears Many Masks” remains one of the most memorable creative experiences of my life. I loved you; I still love you. I know it wasn’t easy on you as I grew up and my fandoms and interests changed. I looked in on your writing in your new fandoms now and again, and what I saw was the same striking prose. I hold onto the last time I saw you that day in Austin. That’s how I’ll choose remember you—stubborn and loving, gracious enough to look past regrets.

Eve was one of the first people I interacted with in the world of writing and fandom, and one of my first art commissions ever. She had a way of appearing in your life, and suddenly your world was intertwined with hers. Always for the better. Always lively, intelligent, and kind. Any ‘thanks’ will simply never be enough for what Eve has done for my life, and every life she’s touched. She was a corner stone in a world full of twists and turns. She was always herself, and herself was wonderful.
