Ernle or "Pat" as he was known to his family, died peacefully in his sleep on 12th November, 2020 at his home in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Micah "Mike" Gordon, who died in 2019; and their parents, Gwendolyn Gordon, née Virgo and Ezekiel Alexander Gordon.
He is survived by his wife, Juliet "Patsy" Gordon; children Richard and Cherryl; sister Llauna "Grace" Humphries and twin sisters, Yvonne "Pink" Lander and Cynthia "Pam" East; daughter-in-law, Juline; grand-daughter Summer; and a host of nieces, nephews, half-siblings and other relatives.
*************************************
Ernle was the first of five children born to Ezekiel Alexander Gordon, a policeman who later became a deacon in the Baptist Church; and Gwendolyn Gordon née Virgo, a social worker and farmer, who was raised Roman Catholic and who later bcame a stalwart in the local Anglican Church.
Ernle was named in honour of a British war hero, Admiral the Hon. Sir Reginald Aylmer Ranfurly Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax, who was related to the family which founded and owned Drax Hall Estate in St Ann. Between 1932 and 1934, Sir Reginald held the post of Commander of the America and West Indies Squadron.
His nickname, "Pat" was from his middle name, "Patrick", in honour of the patron saint of Ireland. He was named this in recognition of his Irish ancestors on his mother's side of the family.
In 1939, Ernle was baptised at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in St. Ann and in 1951, he was confirmed at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in Montpelier, St. James.
Ernle was a Sunday school teacher, Server and Lay Reader in the St. Mary's Cure.
He graduated from Farm School (the Jamaica School of Agriculture) in 1959; from St. Peter's Theological College in 1966; and from the United Theological College of the West Indies in 1968.
He was ordained an Anglican Priest in 1967 and made Rector of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin at 99 Molynes Road, Kingston, in 1972 - the same year he and his wife, Juliet, welcomed their second child, Richard. Their first child, Cherryl, was born in 1970. Ernle remained at St. Mary's until his retirement in 2012.

Father Gordon loved music, especially drumming. He would teach me the importance of incorporating drumming in the Church and "going back to our african roots". I thank you Father G for the many lessons and you will be surely missed.
