Loved Ones

In loving memory of Elsa Pang

Elsa was a caring and generous soul with boundless energy and a zest for life. Growing up in Hong Kong, Elsa's love for travel transformed a passion into jobs as a tour guide and eventually a manager for American Express Travel. She moved to Australia with family in 1992, where she found meaning in being a wonderful wife to Ken and an amazing mother to her sons, Eric and Leo. When she wasn't volunteering at the local schools and libraries, or caring for the elderly, she was often gardening and swimming. Elsa also had a love of fresh produce, and enjoyed bargain hunting on her weekly trips to Victoria Market, after which she would cook up delicious meals that all who have had the pleasure to enjoy can attest were restaurant quality and always made with love. Elsa welcomed her daughter-in-law, Gina, with open arms, and had immense pride and joy in becoming a grandmother to Miya. She fought a hard battle with leukaemia, and passed away Tuesday morning, July 23rd 2024. She is survived by her husband, sons, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who all miss her dearly.

Elsa welcomed us kids into her home. Fed us and chatted with us like we're her own. Her cooking was the best, she taught me how to make my first bolognaise, Dez says there's too much carrots but that's what makes it sweet and delicious!! My joy for cooking definitely started with her and I'm so thankful for her endless advice. Both Elsa and Ken came to visit me in Shanghai and I finally had the opportunity to cook for Elsa and cooked Ken's favourite food hairy crabs 😂 which was just boiling it in a pot so can't really claim I cooked for them..... I always joked about the fact that I have a better friendship with Elsa then Dez as she came to visit me and he never did. Elsa has always been so strong, vibrant and commanding that it's so hard to comprehend all this. Even though life happens and i haven't been able to see her as often. I'm going to miss her so much.

I worked with Elsa for less than 2 years but our friendship survived all the changes in our lives and distance. She was an amazing lady. As my superior, she was ethical, non bias and hardworking. As a friend, she is like a mentor to me. She offered advices and encouragement during my difficult times when I first immigrated to Canada. Her kind and caring character will not be forgotten. She and Dorothy will take my mom out for lunch when I was away studying in Japan. My mom enjoyed her company. Elsa enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and she is good at it. She also shared her pumpkin soup recipe when I was trying to learn to cook. She made useful crafts like clothes hangers for me and I am still using them. Thank you Elsa. You will be missed. Rest in peace.

Aunty Elsa, It was always wonderful to have a natter with you whenever I came by to visit. Whether it was the annual spit roast, board games or joining your family dinners (so we could eat spicy food), I always felt welcomed into your home and family. I really admired your zest for life, how you kept your mind and body strong - still can’t believe you walked to the city most days! - and your devotion to family. Hope you are at peace now, and hanging out with Rex. You’ll be missed by so many of us. Esther

Hi Elsa, Although we've met only a handful of times, there was always a sense of strength and grace in your presence. It’s clear that you’ve passed these qualities onto your sons, who are a testament to the love and care you must have shown them. Though you may be gone in the physical sense, you are still living as vibrant memories of those you have cherished. I hope you are resting peacefully knowing the love and strength you shared continue to live on in your family and those whose lives you touched.

Growing up with Eric and his circle of high school friends, it’s fair to say that not many of us had parents that were ‘present’ in the way you were to Eric and Leo. So being around your home and your family, and seeing your dedication to your children and those important to them sets an example for us all. Where it be the customary Christmas get together, a special occasion or even the impromptu dinner, you were always present with your welcoming and generous spirit. These are memories that I (and I’m sure many others) will keep for life and look back with much fondness. The reality is, when this is all said and done, these are the things that will be talked and thought about. You will be terribly missed. Thank you for bringing much joy to the lives of many. May you rest in peace. - Winston
