I took the road less traveled and it made all the difference
**Biography of Ellis "Nick" Nicholas Nemer** Ellis "Nick" Nicholas Nemer was born on January 6, 1934, in Carrizo Springs, Texas, to Elias and Sadie Nemer. He embarked on a journey that would take him from the heart of Texas to becoming an esteemed member of the Los Angeles community, ultimately leaving behind a legacy of adventure, kindness, and familial devotion. Nick's formative years included a significant chapter at Father Flanagan's Boys Town in Nebraska, which helped shape his educational aspirations. He graduated Cum Laude from Marshall University in West Virginia, earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. His academic journey was only one aspect of his multifaceted life; he proudly served in the Marine Corps as a Private First Class, which instilled in him the values of discipline and service. Nick dedicated his career as a Deputy Probation Officer for Los Angeles County, where he counseled juveniles, helping them navigate challenging times. His passion for education also led him to serve as a substitute teacher, where he inspired countless students with his generous spirit and sense of humor. Beyond his professional endeavors, Nick was an avid entrepreneur. Over the years, he successfully launched a range of ventures with his beloved wife, Oletta, and his family. From a smoked BBQ restaurant to a bottled soda business, and even a carpet cleaning franchise, Nick's adventurous spirit shone through in every pursuit he undertook. He was always ready to embrace new experiences, including a teardrop trailer store, an antique shop, and a brief study in real estate appraising, showcasing his boundless curiosity and willingness to learn. In the late 1960s, Nick relocated his family from West Virginia to California, where they built a home in Phelan. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter, filled with lifelong friendships and adventures. Later, he and Oletta settled in Yucca Valley, enjoying their retirement years surrounded by the beauty of the Californian landscape. Nick had a deep love for the outdoors, and he devoted much time to his interests, which included traveling, reading, and discovering new restaurants. A passionate football fan and music enthusiast, he cherished moments spent with family and friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He was known for his generosity, kindness, and ability to make others laugh, traits that were deeply admired by those who knew him. Nick's family was his cornerstone. He is survived by his son, Greg Nemer, and daughter-in-law, Alice; his daughter, Sharon Nemer; son-in-law, Scott Jodice; grandsons Andrew, Justin, Chris, and Dylan; granddaughter Kara; and eight cherished great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his adored wife of 60 years, Oletta, his parents Elias and Sadie, and his sister Mary. Nick Nemer's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a zest for life. He passed away on August 4, 2025, in Winchester, Tennessee. A memorial ceremony to honor his remarkable life will take place at Riverside National Cemetery on August 26, 2025, at 10:45 AM. Nick's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will never fade.

My dad shaped my character in ways I'll never know. I'm so glad I had such an adventurous, spontaneous, childhood, and never a dull moment. He taught me so many things and life lessons in a way only he could. I will forever miss hearing his voice, seeing his smile and the always interesting conversations and adventures. I'll love and miss you always!
