Elizabeth's Child-In-Law
Elizabeth "Libba" Conger Craft
March 18th, 1935 - June 11th, 2025
March 18th, 1935 - June 11th, 2025
Elizabeth Lewis Conger Craft, or “Libba” as she was known to friends and family, passed away on June 11th, 2025. Libba was born on March 18, 1935 in Monroe, Louisiana to Ethel Lewis Conger and William Edwin Conger. She spent the majority of her life in her cherished hometown, Oak Ridge, Louisiana.
Libba was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her enthusiasm for life, heart for those around her, and candid sense of humor were both rare and contagious. She leaves behind a deeply meaningful legacy to those who knew and loved her.
Growing up, Libba and her sister, Kay, often visited their mother’s family home, known as Beech Grove, in Street, Mississippi. In her stories about Beech Grove, her love for the outdoors, adventure, and time with family was evident. At home in Oak Ridge, she liked riding horses with her dad, playing sports, and being involved in school activities.
Libba was a proud graduate of Oak Ridge High School’s Class of 1953. She then attended Louisiana State University, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Libba thoroughly enjoyed her time at LSU before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1957. She went on to earn a master’s in elementary education from Northeast Louisiana University in 1970.
Also known as Mrs. Craft, Libba was a natural-born teacher. Throughout her 35 year career, she received numerous gifts, notes, and awards for her steadfast work. Libba delighted in learning and had an immense passion for helping her students find confidence in themselves and in their capabilities.
In adulthood, she enjoyed biking around town, mowing yards, and tending to her garden. She loved to travel and especially liked visiting national parks. She was also happy to be at home where she would meet friends at the bank for coffee every morning and serve at her church each week. Libba had a true talent for making ordinary life special.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Landrum Craft, Sr.; parents, William Edwin Conger & Ethel Stanley Lewis Conger; daughter-in-law, Lana Craft; grandson, Lewis Craft; and sister-in-law, Loralee Craft Woods.
She is survived by her sister, Katherine Conger Bain (Troy); brother-in-law, Seborn Woods; and her three sons, Edwin Conger Craft, Sr. of Monroe, LA, Jack Landrum Craft, Jr. (Phyllis) of Lafayette, LA, and Robert Thomas Craft (Stacy) of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Edwin Conger Craft, Jr., Nicole Sevigny (Chris), Caroline Craft, Katherine Craft, Elizabeth Craft, Saylor Craft, and Cannon Craft. She is survived by two great-grandchildren, Natalie Nelson-Craft and Zooey Sevigny, and many other dear relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Oak Ridge Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, LA on June 28th at 10:30 in the morning with a short reception following. There will be no graveside service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or Sober Nest Recovery Homes in Monroe. We are unable to keep floral arrangements, and your support of one of these meaningful causes would be deeply appreciated.

Libba Craft was a very special person. She served as a second grade teacher at Beekman when my husband was principal there. We both came to love her as a fantastic teacher and as a friend. She was unique in so many ways. Charlie and I are most thankful for her friendship over the years and rejoice that she has seen Jesus. She will be held in our hearts forever. Nancy Peterson
