Love so obvious and God given

My gradaddy was the man who raised me and was more of a dad than a grandparent. Some of my fondest memories with him were in the kitchen early in the mornings. He would wake me up to get ready for school before dawn and I'd spend time with him while he made his lunch for the day before he went to work. It was always the same thing, pimento cheese sandwiches, tuna and nutty buddy bars. Sometimes we would talk, sometimes we would just be silent together. These simple moments together meant so much to me. He was there for me when I woke up and he was there to pick me up from school when Granny had to work. He always took us to get ice cream, I think he enjoyed that more than we did! He and Granny taught me to drive a stick shift and he gave me my 1st car. I could fill a book with all the memories but I guess my main point is this, I know everyone talks of him being in a better place but the hole left behind from this loss will never be filled. I love you, Grandiddy.

Your presence needed Always. Your laugh infectious. Your hugs so frail, But I remember then, A tight squeeze Holding me together. Mornings quiet over coffee And pimento cheese sandwiches Packed in your lunchbox. You were loud When we needed it, But mostly you joked And stood for hours after church, Laughing with your friends, The life of the party. In heaven, you’ll be eatin’ good With great Grandma & Grandaddy, Sharing laughs And chuckles. I hope to see you again So we can share a cup of coffee Out on granny’s porch, Watching the sunrise again. The hole you left behind Is too big to fill. We’ll miss you always, And always will. I love you Grandaddy.
