Our plans for life was for Irene to become a doctor and I was going to be a nurse, and be her nurse in her practice. Irene's focus was to be a doctor for space she wanted to provide the medical needs for the astronauts before and after their journey into space Irene fulfilled all her dreams and more. You will truly be missed but never forgotten. Job well done. Love your little sister Deborah l Hood.

From Barbara Lockley: You were a pioneer, a trailblazer, you went on to make history as NASA, Kennedy Space Center's, first female African-American Senior Executive Service member. I remember our days of working together in "MD" back in the early - mid 1980's. It was an honor to know you and work with you. I remember how proud you and Dr. Tipton were of your Wright State roots. Thank you for including me in a few of the historic moments in your KSC life - in the Ebony Magazine photo shoot featuring Dr Mae Jemison, another NASA trailblazer and when Nichel Nichols was there you kindly introduced us. You inspired and showed us that STEM careers were not limited to our male counterparts and with preparation and perseverance anything is possible. Your contributions are too numerous to count, you're impact endless. Thank you, aerospace pioneer, Irene Duhart Long.

Today my heart is heavy and full of sadness that you're no longer here. but beautiful memories I have of my childhood and time spent with you. The tea parties and the Barbie doll fashion shows. Irene never missed a birthday or holiday with her beautiful handcrafted cards. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal love leaves a memory no one can steal. Beautiful memories silently kept of ones that we love and will never forget. Rest in love my sister love Ernestine Baskerville
