January 5th, 1962 - July 23rd, 2019

Patricia Ann Pillsbury, DVM, (January 5, 1962 - July 23, 2019) Dr. Patricia (Patti) Pillsbury passed away on July 23 after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on January 5, 1962 in Detroit to Donald and Marilyn (Morris) Pillsbury of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Dr. Pillsbury loved animals and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian and pursued her dream and passion to reality. She graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1980, attended Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Physiology in 1984, and then her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State's prestigious College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Post-graduation, she briefly practiced in New York before returning to Michigan. She tended to many four-legged friends in Birmingham and Grosse Pointe before joining Oakland Animal Hospital in Rochester, Michigan, in 2000. Her special interests included feline medicine and animal behavior. She was a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association and the Southeast Michigan Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Pillsbury is survived by her beloved husband, Alexi Neverovich, of West Bloomfield. They enjoyed saber fencing, which is how they met, and were world travelers and adventurers. Africa, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Italy, Hawaii, and the great American West are just some of their favorite places they visited. She treasured the Leelanau Peninsula in Northern Michigan and all its beauty. She enjoyed riding her horse, Rose, playing with Yeti, her white chihuahua, and four cats. Dr. Pillsbury was an avid reader and often had a book in progress at every comfortable reading spot in their house. She is also survived by her parents, Donald and Marilyn Pillsbury; her sisters Dr. Nancy Pillsbury, DVM, (Brian) and Pamela Flores (Daniel); her mother-in-law, Ada Neverovich; her brother-in-law, Vitaly Neverovich (Alena); and nieces, Marnie, Sydney, Madison, Maria, Mila, and nephews, Gregory and Nicholas. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Pillsbury requested that donations be made to the ASPCA, Big Cat Rescue, Snow Leopard Trust, World Wildlife Fund, Feral Kitty Trappers, and the Leelanau Conservation Society. A Celebration of Life event for Dr. Pillsbury will be planned for later in the summer with an announcement to follow to allow her countless friends, clients and all those whom she has touched through the years a chance to celebrate her life as a great doctor, champion of all animals, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and woman.

Dr.P as I liked to call her was a true beacon. She always made me feel involved and a true part of her team when it came to caring for my 4 legged companions. Over the years, we discovered many shared interest involving the care and love for animals. There are no words to express how much she was valued as a veterinarian. To her husband, family and friends, Thank You for sharing her. She has left a mark on all of us that had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. She set a standard in her kindness and compassion. I will miss her greatly 🌹 Kiss Jack for me

I just read on another site that the celebration of life for Dr. Pillsbury will be on Friday, August 16, from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Royal Park Hotel. I would have been so sad to miss it and I'm sure so many of you here would have been, too.

I will miss Dr. Pillsbury so much. She was so kind and took such good care of our cats. I remember the day she was going to get her first haircut after it had grown back. I was so happy for her. My heart goes out to all of her family members and to everyone at Oakland Animal who was used to seeing her for all those years. Dr. Pillsbury was so special and so important to so many people, and to so many beloved pets.

Dr Patti's toughness was just contagious and I think that I will remember her most for how she made me feel brave and capable when I was worried and unsure. For a few of my pets, some of the treatments over the years were tough and I didn't think I could manage them--but she said I could do it... so I did, each and every time, leaning on her toughness and her faith in me. She zeroed in with affection and interest on each of my pets, delighting in stories of their quirky uniqueness, and examining them with concern and attention. She had the same kind of basic goodness, toughness, gentleness, and persistence that you see in animals, making her a very fine vet. She was a talented and special human being, and I feel very lucky to have known her.

Dr. Pillsbury was an excellent veterinarian. We thought that we would have her forever but that was not to be. We did not know that she was battling cancer. She carried herself so well that we ignored the signs... we thought she wore the wig because she was too busy to do her hair in the morning; her make-up was different because she had a make-over. We have all lost a priceless jewel. Our condolences to her family and husband. May God hold you in his arms and help you through this difficult time. May she be in a better place and be given the peace and joy that she deserves. Thank you for posting the pictures of her life. It helps give us closure.

Dr. Patti was truly one of a kind, always there for us and the Frohm Clowder, whether it be our house cats, fosters or ferals, she knew how to handle their different purrsonalities (and my cat mom anxiety). She'll never know what that hug meant to me days before my surgery in April. I'll never forget her or her compassion. We will always remember your kindness Dr. Patti. May you be at peace as you watch over all those you loved and bless all the animals from above. Kyle & Nick Clowder- Benjamin, Frankie, Ralphie, Charlie, Blu, (Max), (Kitty-RIP), (Tinker & Tailor), (Nalo).
