Douglas Snippa

Douglas Arthur Snippa (4 Feb 1970 – 12 May 2023) beloved partner, father, brother and friend, died unexpectedly at his home in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 53 years. He is survived by his companion, Kim; son, Justin; former spouse, Liana; step-children, Dominick, Joshua, Tatum and Maxim; siblings, Stewart (Deb), Deborah, Richard (Tara), Patricia (Mike), and Mark (Heather); step-father, Bernard; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Doug was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy; his father, Hank, and; his partner, Nicola.

Doug spent his entire life in British Columbia and enjoyed the outdoors. He was especially passionate about fishing. In his youth, he’d be up at the crack of dawn, dragging his siblings reluctantly out of bed to go fishing; Doug just couldn’t get enough of it. Most of his early career was associated with forestry then construction where he thrived at becoming an excavator operator with Teck Construction for 15 years.

Doug savoured cooking big meals for family and friends, from traditional turkey dinners to amazing soups. When he met Kim, he supported her in the wine and restaurant business, in which he found much satisfaction. At home, country music was always cranked up and he basked in his farm life in Greendale where you often would find him chatting with the neighbours, playing with his dog, Penny, tinkering in the barn, or making a bonfire to host friends who stopped by.

Doug was nearly 6’6”, so there was never a chance of losing him in a crowd. He had a ready smile and deep laugh and made friends wherever he went; he had a way of getting to know everyone and being there to help people. He was appreciative when folks reached out to him and is described by many as “a good man”. He will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, you could honour Doug’s memory with a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation, or the Amputee Coalition Society of BC, as you wish. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 17, 2023 in Chilliwack, BC at 2:00pm in the back yard at 6745 Wiltshire St., Chilliwack, BC.   More details can be seen if you click on the Event tab.
