Douglas Gordon Anderson of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on December 15, 2022, after a long-fought battle with prostate cancer. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his wife Paula; their children Teri (Scott), Scott (Caitlyn), and Craig; his grandchildren Caelan, Bethany, Paisley, Leahm, and Mason; and his brothers James and Robert.

Doug was born on March 5, 1955, to Gordon and Linda Anderson in Edmonton, Alberta. Doug and Paula married in 1980. Their children were born in 1981, 1984, and 1985.

Doug was a loving and amazing husband, father, musician, and photographer whose passion showed in everything he did. His compassion, kindness, and his love for his family was evident in every interaction. His music and art were beautiful and worked to perfection and he would put everything he had into them until they met his high expectations. His purpose was to make those around him happy and it was impossible not to love him. He was empathic and able to reassure those around him in times of need. Whether employees, family, or a stranger he was always able to turn the rain to sunshine, helping others look to the bright side as he did.

Doug’s passions lied in music and photography. He was a talented guitarist touring Canada with the beloved band, Patch. Later, he joined with fellow melomaniac Tim Lovett to form Stil Crazy and played local bars across Alberta. He then played with the Tim Lovett Band, and subsequently for Vaguely Familiar, playing across Edmonton. Doug also spent his weekends in the wilderness camping out to capture beautiful pictures of his favorite birds, often traveling miles and waiting hours to find the perfect shot. Doug also spent hours editing these photos to professional quality. Doug’s music and photography will live on; his photography can be found at https://www.instagram.com/stilcrazy/?hl=en

Though Doug has left us much too early, his love and compassion will live through all those he has touched for the rest of our lives. A celebration of life will be held in March 2023. More information will be provided closer to the date. In lieu of flowers donations may be offered to the Alberta Cancer Research Center.

This is very sad to hear. He was much too young. I grew up with Doug in my world and he was one of a kind. I looked up to him a lot growing up and always thought he was an amazing person in every way. Condolences to the family.

I met Doug 8 years ago when he hired me at Home Depot. Little did I know that over the years I would not only have a boss but a teacher, a mentor and then a friend. If I was asked to describe my friend, I would say that he was a gentle gentleman. How fortunate am I to have met Doug. He is greatly missed.
