DORIS ADA COLE1930 – 2022
Doris Ada Cole (nee Bryant) passed away at her residence at Chelsea Park in Vancouver, Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the age of 92 with her daughters by her side. Doris was born in Leyton, London, England on January 1, 1930 to Leonard Charles Bryant and Ada Cuthbert.
She is survived by her son Graham (Pat), Whitehorse, YK and daughters, Marion MacDougall (Dick) Miramichi Bay, NB and Barbara Cole (David MacWilliam) Vancouver; also grandchildren Ben and Daniel Cole, Christina MacDougall, and Hailey Cole-McElroy, who loved and adored her and especially enjoyed her butter tarts. She was Great Gramma (GG) to her 3 great grandchildren Kayden, Mackenzie and Cadence and she was always ready to hear about their escapades. She is also survived by her sister Joyce Simister of Theydon Bois, Essex, England, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Ken, her husband of 56 years, in 2006. Theirs was a loving marriage, so much so that they seemed to only need each other to be happy. To Doris her family was everything and she happily passed on lots of love and attention to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Doris was a Girl Guide, trained as a Child Care Worker in England, a Cub leader, and worked at Sears in Hamilton, Peterborough and Surrey. Doris liked to garden, walk and knit. She has a "green thumb" and for years she rescued her daughter Marion ' s dying house plants and restored them to life.
She was small, feisty and independent. The one thing that she did not like to do was WAIT – for any reason - best not to keep her waiting if you wanted to stay on her good side. She loved to walk and walked several kilometres a day until her late 80’s.
Chelsea Park became her new home in 2018 and she became involved in the knitting club, cribbage group and exercise group and enjoyed the activities offered by the residence. She walked several times a day in John Hendry Park across the street from her residence until the last few weeks.
Doris had a full and happy life and made a difference to everyone's life that she touched especially her family’s. She will be greatly missed but every one of us will carry a piece of her in our hearts…a piece full of great memories and love
