Donald Croy

Donald J. Croy passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2017. He is survived by his wife Ginny, his two children Susie and Dale, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Born on June 29, 1921, and raised in East Grand Forks, MN. He married the love of his life, Virginia May Peterson, on November 17, 1942. He proudly served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1942-1946 as a Cryptographic Technician, stationed in New Caledonia. After the war, Don graduated from the University of North Dakota with a BS in Accounting. His career in accounting spanned many roles. Positions included Accountant at Associated Potato Growers (Grand Forks, ND), General Manager at Farmers Cooperative Oil Co. (McMinnville, OR), Comptroller at Diamond Fruit Growers (Hood River, OR), and CFO at Luhr Jensen & Co (Hood River, OR). After retiring, he helped people understand their taxes while working part-time at Purkey’s Tax Services (Tigard, OR). Don was active in the community and a friend to many. A dedicated member of Rotary International for the past 36 years. He served as President of the Hood River Rotary Club (1984-1985) and was an active member at the Tigard Rotary Club from 1987 through 2016, at which time he became an honorary member. Don loved the game of golf and played regularly. He impressed everyone when he hit a hole-in-one at the age of 89 at Charbonneau Golf Club. He carried his iPod everywhere he went and loved to read and forward jokes to his friends. Those who knew him will never forget his sense of humor or the sound of his laughter. The family will hold a private celebration of Don’s life.
